Wage: $30.00 per hour

Primary Purpose:

Provide assistance in classroom, office, and/or school facilities under the direct supervision of a certified teacher or employee of HISD. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing activities.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

At least 16 years of age

High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate

Have met formal academic assessment, NCCER and/or OSHA preferred


Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with children and adults

Ability to communicate effectively


Experience:

Some experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Support

  • Provide assistance to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and objective work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly workplace.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to HISD employee assigned.

Management

  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Make the supervisor aware of the special needs or problems of individual students and adults.

Other

  • Participate in training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to the sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
