Responsible for advising and assisting students who visit the Advising Center.

Organizational Relationships
  • This Success & Retention Coach reports and is directly responsible to the Executive Director of Enrollment Services and Advising.
  • This position doesn’t supervise any other positions.
  • This position interacts with all other members of the Enrollment Services & Advising areas as well as various other entities both inside and outside of the college.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Holds individual advising appointments with new advisees to discuss the advising relationship, course requirements, registration, campus services, and career options.
  • Stays up to date on advising regulations and procedures.
  • Implements, introduces, and refers students to services that support retention/success depending on the need.
  • Serves as liaison/proxy advisor to all programs. Considering student assessment scores, transfer information, time frame, and program requirements, develops an educational plan for each student.
  • Available daily for advising questions and information about the college.
  • Follows up with students who have been referred to any service (tutoring, test anxiety, etc.) to see if the service helped the student.
  • Embraces NACADA’s definition of comprehensive advising and promotes a college wide culture of advising as teaching.
  • Displays compassion to students who are academically deficient and in need of moral support.
  • Promotes the type of atmosphere in the center that students want to stop by and talk to any advisor.
  • Refers at-risk students to mental health and community programs as needed.
  • Operates as a backup for the front office in the absence of co-workers.
  • Assists the Executive Director of Enrollment Services and Advising in other duties as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilites Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
(declarative knowledge, special education):
Requires knowledge of curricula offered by the College and an understanding of academic regulations. Knowledgeable of college policy and procedures, FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Must possess strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently and also as a team. Must be open and responsive to diverse populations. Ability to learn and use efficiently College Student Information Systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment. Travel is required to attend various local, statewide and regional meetings and professional development conferences designated/approved.
