Thank you for your interest in serving as a daily substitute in Guilford County Schools. Your services are needed now more than ever! We continue to have a critical need for substitute teachers due to the continuing cases of COVID-19 in our community.

The district is offering substitutes who meet the criteria listed below, a $1,000 bonus each month beginning September, 2022. To be eligible for the $1,000.00 monthly bonus, substitutes must:

• Accept substitute teacher opportunities through AESOP, our substitute management system,
• Work full day substitute teacher assignments on all school days within the calendar month. School days include all days that students are expected to be at school and
• Meet the performance and conduct expectations of staff and school visitors outlined in the Employee handbook and in School Board policies.

The $1,000.00 monthly bonus will be paid within 30 days following completion and validation of time worked.

Please note that our daily substitute teacher pay rate is now the highest in the State. Licensed teacher substitutes receive a daily pay of $160.00 and Non-licensed teacher substitutes receive a daily rate of $130.00.

Here are the steps to becoming a substitute in GCS.

STEP 1 (APPLICATION) - Complete your application and apply to this job ID. If applying for a Substitute Teacher or Teacher Assistant, be sure to upload transcripts confirming completion of 48 semester hours with an overall GPA of 3.0 or an Associate's Degree or higher with an overall GPA of 2.0 or Work Keys passing test scores (Reading, Writing and Business Math).

STEP 2 (FORMS COMPLETION) - Following a review by our GCS Human Resource Team of your substitute application, we will send eligible candidates a packet of forms for completion.

STEP 3 (I-9 ID FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION) - After you complete all forms, provide identification for federal employment eligibility to Human Resources (712 N. Eugene Street, Greensboro - Monday through Friday - 8 AM until 5 PM).

STEP 4 (BACKGROUND CHECK) - GCS will complete a background check for those who complete STEPS 1 - 3 (Please note the timeline for this step varies depending on in-state or out-of-state addresses; out-of-state checks typically take a few days to a week.)

STEP 5 (ORIENTATION) - Candidates eligible for hire following the background check will be invited to attend a virtual substitute orientation.

STEP 6 (APPROVAL) - Candidates who complete orientation will receive an email confirming approval to begin substituting.

The timeline for approval is dependent on how quickly candidates complete the required steps and background check results.
