SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The Student Accessibility Services Coordinator is essential to this work by ensuring that all students with a disability have equitable opportunities and access to the academic and extracurricular offerings of the College.
The Coordinator provides guidance to assist students with disabilities in their transition and adjustment to the
College, accepts and reviews disability documentation, and determines appropriate accommodations on campus
(i.e., dining hall, classroom, etc.) The coordinator is expected to consult with faculty, staff, and campus partners about appropriate accommodations in their respective areas. Additionally, the coordinator is expected to work with the CARE Team as a case manager and colleagues in the Associate Dean of Student Affairs Office to provide support to students to ensure access to all their educational opportunities, including:
- Leads the programs and operations of Student Accessibility Services by ensuring compliance with the
Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
- Contributes knowledge in the areas of differentiated learning theories, accessibility, and universal design.
- Evaluates, verifies, and interprets documentation from various professionals to determine student eligibility for accommodations.
- Assists with maintaining and coordinating the use of support equipment and adaptive technology.
- Advises students, faculty, and departments on appropriate and recommended reasonable academic accommodations.
- Leads workshops for faculty on universal design and accommodating students with disabilities.
- Acts as an intermediary between faculty and students for disability-related grievances.
- Assists with providing training to faculty and staff on ADA compliance, Section 504 compliance, disability education, and universal design.
- Manages medical withdrawals and reinstatements.
- Coordinates alternative format accommodations (test, note taking, and assistive technology accommodations), promotes services to the campus and community.
- Support comprehensive coaching initiatives for students with disabilities.
- Collect, analyze, and assess departmental data for continuous improvement.
- Assist with the development and implementation of department policies and procedures.
- Consult and collaborate with faculty and/or staff to determine reasonable. accommodations.
- Maintains case files and confidential student records in accordance with Family Education Rights and
Privacy Act (FERPA) and college policies.
- Conduct individual meetings with students to determine, arrange, and update reasonable accommodations as determined by the interactive process.
- Enforces the college's compliance with ADA.
- Serves as a case manager for the CARE Team.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- A minimum of three years of full-time experience working in a college, or university, or addressing accommodation for students with disabilities.
- Experience in 504/ADA and Fair Housing Act interpretation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, function autonomously, prioritize, and manage multiple organizational and administrative tasks.
- Administrative experience, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with equipment and adaptive technology for students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of learning theories and strategies effective with students in need of differentiated learning techniques.
- Ability to effectively work with a diverse student population, staff, and faculty members.
- Ability to provide one-on-one academic learning support to students in communication and study strategies.
- Ability and willingness to learn new technology and assistive technology devices as appropriate.
- Commitment to working with and fostering an inclusive environment with a diverse population of individuals.
- Experience advising, case management, counseling, and/or programming in higher education or comparable setting.
- Functional knowledge of assistive technology tools.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to build and sustain relationships with governing agencies, students with disabilities, and colleagues/professionals at all levels of the community.
- Organizational, prioritization, and written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide quality service and accommodations in a timely manner.
- Experience working with federal laws regarding post-secondary education and disabilities, including
ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
EDUCATION: Minimum of a Master’s degree in related field such as Rehabilitation Counseling, Special
Education, Disability Studies, Higher Education, or Psychology, is preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Able to use technology to communicate, manage and analyze data.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to effectively present information and address complex questions.
