Strategy Director (NYC) Job at Gravity Road
Gravity Road New York, NY 10012
Gravity Road is a digital-first creative company that creates things people want to spend time with – ideas that audiences will love and be entertained by. We are part of pioneering The Brandtech Group (headquartered in New York, with group offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris, Cape Town, Bangalore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sydney, Sao Paulo and Mexico City.)
Born in London (where our clients include Mastercard, McCain, Indeed and Tiktok) we opened our first US office in New York in 2019, and have since built up a client base which includes Niantic (makers of Pokemon Go) and Reckitt Benckiser.
The role
We are looking for a rounded, very modern Brand Strategist – someone with proven ability to understand audiences, digital platforms and popular culture - and offer their point of view with confidence at C-suite level. This person will be joining a small but fast-growing team of Gravity Roaders in our office on Broadway and Prince. You will be working on global brands such as Peloton and Microsoft/Minecraft and report into our London-based Executive Strategy Director.
This role may suit someone who has mastered their craft inside the walls of a big agency, and is ready to benefit from the greater autonomy and proximity to clients and creative development that a smaller boutique agency offers, as well as the scope to lead in the building of both agency and departmental culture. 2022 is an exciting time to join as we are continuing to push into Gaming, Social Commerce and the Metaverse.
What you’ll get up to
- Leading on brand/creative/campaign/editorial strategy for our US clients: writing and then selling-in strategic solutions to clients, before briefing-in, inspiring and supporting creative development.
- Leading on positioning/brand/creative/messaging strategy for our US clients - writing and selling-in strategic recommendations to clients, briefing-in and supporting creative development and proving the effectiveness of our output.
- You will be the tie that binds the creative work to the desired audience. Working in a collaborative environment with Comms Planning, Creative and Client Service teams, you are ALWAYS acting as a passionate advocate for the consumer and their mind-set.
- Flexing social listening/insight and research muscles to dig out fresh cultural and audience insights that help our creative work resonate.
- Being the expert on your client’s categories, fielding audience and category knowledge to the wider team and informing reactive content opportunities.
- Writing clear and compelling creative briefs and award-winning case studies.
- Creating a culture of effectiveness by analysing campaign results, tracking and measuring against set metrics, and making future recommendations.
- Supporting the agency’s new business efforts by leading on pitches, speculative proposals and RFPs.
- Support Client Service Directors in managing client accounts/relationships with senior clients
What you need
- You are naturally curious and always ask: how will someone see the work? Why will they care? What will compel them to act? And you are brave and bold enough to ask these questions of both clients and creatives when they need to be asked.
- You will have a deep knowledge of traditional brand and creative strategy, married to an equally deep interest in - and understanding of - social media platforms and digital culture.
- 10 + years experience of working in brand/advertising strategy, with c. 5 of those years in a Digital-first environment.
- Resilience in a fast-moving environment. A self-starter whose first instinct is to solve problems independently and then know when to work with others in a collaborative effort to find solutions.
- A team player, able to respond thoughtfully at equally rapid pace to a client’s changing needs.
- You are skilled at participating in strategic discussions both internally and with clients.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and excellent presentation skills.
Gravity Road offers an excellent working environment and has a commitment to training and developing its employees. This role has excellent progression opportunities for a hard-working and ambitious candidate. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
Salary $150k-$170k per annum (dependent on experience)
