STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

ACCOUNTABILITY:The Strategic Communications Specialist will report directly to the Legislative Aide and Delegate Washington.

TIME COMMITMENT: Part time position (10-15 hours/wk.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Strategic Communications Specialist will serve as a liaison between the Delegate’s Office, the community, and the media. Through crafting a message strategy, the Strategic Communications Specialist will ensure that the Delegate’s messages and correspondences are clear, appropriate, and disseminated properly. The Strategic Communications Specialist will also establish and maintain strong relationships with local community leaders.

Ø Messaging:

o Develop a comprehensive message strategy and oversee the implementation of the Delegate’s message.

o Assist in writing, editing, and distributing press releases and editorial articles to local media outlets.

Ø Social & Digital Media:

o Create a consistent brand and messaging strategy for all social media accounts, make sure they are updated regularly.

o Take high quality pictures for use on our team’s various platforms.

o Create quality digital graphics for upcoming events, accomplishments, and news from our office.

Ø Community Research:

o Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of Prince George’s County Civic Associations, PTA’s, Homeowner’s Associations, Local Newspapers, and Local Email Listservs.

o Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of Prince George’s County community events.

Ø General:

o Develop working knowledge of the Delegate’s Legislative Agenda and remain knowledgeable of issues relevant to the district.

REQUIREMENTS:

Ø Experience managing social media brands;

Ø Proficient research and analytic skills;

Ø Strong oral and written communication skills;

Ø Strong organizational skills;

Ø Ability to maintain a strong attention to detail;

Ø Willingness to maintain a commitment to a team;

Ø Access to a laptop and cell phone.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Education:

• Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:

• Public relations: 1 year (Preferred)

Language:

• Spanish (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Preferred)

Willingness to travel:
