About the Miami Correctional Facility:
Miami Correctional Facility is located on the former Grissom Air Force Base, on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. This facility is classified as a medium/high maximum security correction facility, housing a maximum of 3,188 offenders. At the DOC, we promote public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. As the model of best correctional practices, we strive to return productive citizens to our communities and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity, and professionalism.

About the Job:
The Stores Clerk performs a wide variety of tasks in the supervision and overall operation of stocking, disbursing, and controlling goods and supplies

A Day in the Life:

  • Authorizes accuracy of all orders received in the storeroom and authorizes all goods received;
  • Contacts vendors regarding partial shipments and/or disorders;
  • Maintains detailed inventory records and records of items ordered;
  • Evaluates and recognize record keeping or storage procedures as necessary;
  • Ensures proper storage procedures and rotation of stock for perishable items;
  • Makes recommendations on the purchase of new equipment for the warehouse and maintenance required in the building;
  • Oversees and assembles equipment received in “knocked down” condition;
  • Ensures security of inmate staff assigned to warehouse;

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Thorough knowledge of requisitioning and disbursing procedures, consumption rates of stored items, and inventory control procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of stock items, their locations, and the proper methods of storing a variety of goods and supplies based upon efficient space utilization and a variety of state and federal regulations.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Practical knowledge of state regulations in handling and storing foodstuffs and perishables.
  • Ability to train inmates and staff in the proper operation of all equipment and proper methods of storage.
  • Ability to maintain detailed, accurate inventory and purchasing records.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, hand truck, and other mechanical equipment in a warehouse.

Pay: From $31,668.00 per year
