The Lundquist Institute is looking for a Full-time Staff Research Associate IV to join our team in our Torrance, CA location
Applications are invited for a Staff Research Assoicate IV position to join the Jendzjowsky Lab investigating lung neuro-immune control at The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Reporting to Dr. Nicholas Jendzjowsky, the primary duties will involve routine molecular, biological and electrophysiology techniques involved with ongoing experiments.
The Lundquist Institute is an independent, non-profit research institute with over 110 investigators, 600 scientists, trainees and technicians as well as administrative staff. In the 67 years since its founding, The Lundquist Institute has made seminal contributions to Science and Medicine, including the modern serum cholesterol test, the creation and implementation of a training system for paramedics, and the development of enzyme replacement therapy for lysosomal storage diseases. The Lundquist Institute intellectual property has enabled the formation of 10 spin-off companies over the last 9 years. Its ecosystem for innovation occupies 11.5 acres on the Harbor-UCLA campus in Torrance, CA. The newly completed research tower adds 80,000 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratory, office and public space to our scientific infrastructure.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A BSc. degree with minimum 2+ years of experience in specific research areas (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology) is essential. Additional experience with extensive bench lab work is preferred. Background in neuroscience is necessary.
- Animal surgery experience is a definite plus.
- Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate experimental need that may occur on any day of the week.
- A proven team player, able to collaborate and motivate successfully.
- Ability to plan workload effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well independently or as part of a team.
Description of Duties
- Molecular biology including qPCR, DNA electrophoresis, DNA and RNA preparation and Western Blots
- Routine histology stains, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry
- Performs primary and immortalized cell culture experiments.
- Helps perform microscopic imaging analyses using confocal microscope.
- Patch clamp of cells.
- Performs related duties as assigned

- Pension Plan: The Lundquist Institute provides a retirement plan for eligible employees, which is fully funded by Lundquist Institute. The Lundquist Institute makes an annual contribution based on each employee’s earnings in accordance with the provisions of the plan.
- Supplemental Retirement: Eligible employees can participate in a 403(b) supplemental retirement plan which allows pretax contributions. The Lundquist Institute offers a variety of investment options through Fidelity Investment, TIAA/CREF.

- Paid Sick Leave: Eligible employees can accrue up to ten (10) days of sick leave per year.
