Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Staff Nurse for Pediatric Pulmonology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. In accordance with professional nursing standards, skillfully administers total patient care based on the individualized needs of assigned patients and families.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

- Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
- Administers prescribed medications, teaches patients how to administer injectable and inhalation medication.
- Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
- Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient’s condition and reactions to drugs, treatment and significant incidents.
- Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
- Responds to life savings situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current license to practice in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Certifications/Licenses
- BLS
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and Electronic Medical Record, including the ability to type and talk at the same time while navigating a Windows environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pediatric experience
- BSN and three to five (3-5) years of experience
- Experience in pulmonary medicine, pediatric pulmonary, cystic fibrosis and asthma.
- Certification as an asthma educator.
- Experience and training in performing pre and post bronchodilator pulmonary function testing in children.
- Telephone triage skills.

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying.
