Staff Engineer (Design) Job at McMahon Associates
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Engineer position will work on a variety of transportation projects under direct supervision of an experienced professional.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Complete engineering analyses and designs
- Assist in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, construction schedules, cost estimates, permits and designs for projects
- Draft transmittals, memos, meeting minutes, proposals and response letters
- Use AutoCAD 3D Civil, Microstation and other computer assisted engineering and design software/equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
- Develop and maintain organized project files
- Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects as necessary
- Coordinate with technical staff as necessary
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic oral and written communication skills
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to present to Supervisors
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Microsoft Office (Word/Excel required)
- Knowledge of computer aided software (Experience utilizing Synchro, HCS, AutoCAD and Microstation a plus.)
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. Completed coursework in transportation engineering and highway design is a prerequisite.
- Relevant internship or 0-3 years of work experience

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no immediate supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates primarily in a professional office environment. This role requires frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works outside the office and may be exposed to outside weather conditions. This position may include occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:
This position may risk exposure to bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time position. The typical work days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some night and weekend work may be required.
TRAVEL:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
