  • SHIFT: Full Time, Day Shift - 40hrs/week (Position is preferred in-office, but department is open to 3 day-hybrid schedule)

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs various functions related to the production of financial statements and maintenance of financial systems for Marin General Hospital and affiliated entities,

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required. Major in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience with general accounting or business office functions is required.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS

  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and operations, as well as subsidiary systems such as accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, and receivables
  • Knowledge of auditing procedures
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Must have the ability to act independently within prescribed parameters
  • Ability to assess processes and implement improvement, where appropriate
  • Ability to assume increasing levels of responsibility in accounting issues

PATIENT PRIVACY (HIPAA Compliance):

Employees in this position have access to protected health information. The protected health information a person in this position can access includes demographics, date of service, insurance/billing, medical record summary information, and all other information that may be contained in patient records. This position requires patient health information to perform the functions outlined as part of this position description.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL (not modifiable)

  • Prepares bank reconciliations for all cash and investment accounts as directed, and to interact with bank employees.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly sales tax reporting.
  • Assists with accumulating information related to financial statement audits, annual tax returns, and cost report filings.
  • Interacts with vendors and staff inquiries related to sales tax reporting.
  • Prepares financial reports, including correct preparation of journal entries and maintenance of supporting ledgers, preliminary financial statements, conducts analytical reviews, development of analysis and supporting schedules, and monthly reviews to ensure that the receipts and payments are reflected accurately and in the appropriate accounts.
  • Responsible for various account reconciliations as directed by the Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting
  • Responsible for providing all pertinent information and schedules as required by the various annual audits.
  • Works with Accounts Payable department on problem solving, data entry, and vendor inquiries.
  • As directed by the Controller or Director of Accounting, assist with ad hoc projects related to AP and/or Payroll
  • Other duties in the AP and payroll departments as assigned.

GENERAL

Length of shift is 8 hours per day, five days per week, with the occasional requirement to work nights or weekends. The position is primarily a sedentary position, with walking and standing a secondary requirement. Bends, stoops, and reaches at all levels to retrieve records, files, supplies etc. Coordination, agility, near visual acuity and finger dexterity required to operate computer, photocopier, calculator and telephone. Must have good vision, auditory ability, and verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with others.
