Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Objective:



The Staff Accountant is responsible for evaluating, reviewing and recording the Hospital general ledger accounting entries related to the financial statements, general accounting, and financial and statistical reporting. This position plans, organizes, records, evaluates and implements the Hospital’s accounting functions.

Ensures the accurate recording of accounting transactions into the accounting system in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Responsible for creating and maintaining accurate and detailed worksheets to support the monthly accounting entries.

Maintain Key Sox and Non-Sox controls for the hospital and ensure compliance.

Maintains an organized system of monthly entries, with support, for the Controller’s review.

Reviews automated transfer entries from A/P, Fixed Asset, modules and manual interface entries from the payroll module to the general and statistical ledgers to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting practices.

Monitors internal controls to assure compliance with established procedures.

Prepares financial and statistical reports as requested. .

Reviews and ensures the accuracy of supporting documents for monthly journal entries.

Maintains organized and efficient schedules that support the monthly entries.

Reconciles balance sheet accounts each month and investigates variances. Reconciles cash accounts for all entities.

Assists department directors with the budget questions and is able to answer questions on expense variances.

Prepares supporting worksheets for interim and annual external audit.



What qualifications you will need:


  • Associates degree in Finance or Accounting required.

    l One to three years of experience as a Staff Accountant required.

    l Experience in a healthcare field preferred.

    l Knowledge of GAAP and SOX.

    l Ability to problem solve and works well independently within time constraints.

    l Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy required.

    l Advanced computer experience with MS Office Suite (Excel Vlookups and Hlookups), Word and PowerPoint).

    l Ability to work independently to manage multiple projects, prioritize assignments, handle stressful situations and meet deadlines.

    l Proven ability to set priorities, exercise initiative and judgement and make decisions within scope of assigned authority.

    l Ability to work effectively with management and staff at various levels in the organization and with external consultants, vendors and auditors.

    l Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a diverse audience.
