Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is a multi-program laboratory applying state of the art science and practical, high-value, cost-effective solutions to complex technical problems to protect the nation. Situated on the outskirts of South Carolina, Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is located approximately 20 minutes from Augusta, Georgia (home of the annual Master’s Tournament) and 30 minutes from Fort Gordon (home of the new US Army Cyber Command). The complex is one-hour away from Columbia, South Carolina and within a three-hour radius of Charleston, South Carolina, and many of the coastal beaches. Aiken is known for its famous thoroughbred horses, southern hospitality, growing community, thriving school district, numerous parks and golf courses, great weather, spacious avenues, and historical large and impressive homes.

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a Machinist to join a dynamic team in the Machine Shop of the Advanced Manufacturing & Design organization creating innovative solutions for the Savannah River Site, DOE complex and national security missions.

Duties and responsibilities may include:

• Responsible for performing tasks from work orders, drawings, design documents and procedures to perform machining activities based on skills and knowledge obtained from training and/or previous experience.
• Responsible for obtaining guidance from supervision when the conditions warrant, but usually works under minimal supervision.
• Responsible for self-directed/peer decision type work environment to include planning sequence of manufacturing operations to achieve desired results.
• Responsible for attaining necessary knowledge and skills to program, set up, and operate CNC equipment and CAD-CAM Systems.
• Responsible for operating material handling equipment.
• Responsible for inspecting and/or testing parts and equipment to determine functional condition.
• Responsible for assisting supervision and/or management with understanding of problems and suggest possible solutions.
• Responsible for performing administrative functions such as timekeeping, data entry, and other administrative functions as needed to perform job.
• Ability to meet physical requirements for the essential duties, which include working around rotating equipment, being able to lift to 50 pounds, prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and twisting. Other duties as assigned by supervision.

Basic Education Qualifications

Associate degree in Machine Tool Technology or Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance with at least three (3) years of experience as a machinist or a closely related position.

Other Required Qualifications

Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
