Job Description
Brookfield Properties has an immediate need for Senior Paralegal at the corporate office in Chicago, IL.
Brookfield Properties’ legal group provides to its varied client base a broad range of legal expertise, experience and practical knowledge in all facets of its business. The law department's focus on partnering with its clients, strong commitment to quality legal representation and collegial team atmosphere make this an outstanding place to practice sophisticated commercial real estate law.
The Senior Paralegal, Corporate is an integral member of the corporate legal group working closely with attorneys, paralegals and other legal professionals to support the retail group of Brookfield Properties in all manner of real estate financing and refinancing activities. This position requires a senior level paralegal who can work independently and autonomously while also providing guidance to more junior legal professionals on the team. The ideal candidate will have the skill and confidences to act independently, and the poise and self-awareness to seek out help and ask questions when necessary.

Responsibilities:

Provide legal support for the structuring, drafting, negotiation, and closing of sophisticated real estate finance transactions. These transactions shall include but are not limited to:

Acquisitions of property for new projects and expansions

Municipal financings, including TIPs, tax abatement agreements and grants
-
Department store REAs purchase and sales agreements, leases and supplemental agreements

Ground and big box leases
-

Assist with drafting and updating of legal documents.

Develop and mentor junior members of the legal team.

Support various other real estate and transactional matters.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-
Minimum seven (7) years’ relevant experience as a real estate paralegal, either in a comparable in-house setting or at a leading national firm.

Bachelor’s degree.

Willingness to roll up sleeves (no job too big, no job too small).

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and exemplary work ethic.

Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced high performing environment.
