Job Description


AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to oversee a high-profile and complex drilling program that encompasses multiple projects for the same site. The position requires an especially accomplished individual to spearhead a very demanding yet rewarding program that includes deep well installations (e.g., 300 to 600 feet deep) at multiple locations being drilled by multiple drilling subcontractors working under multiple projects. This position is for immediate employment in the Honolulu, HI office. Applicants must be United States citizens and have no less than 10 years of verifiable experience in prominent roles performing and managing investigations that include extensive drilling and well installation operations. Work will be performed with a strong supporting team of project managers, senior geologists/hydrogeologists, task leads, and supporting staff consisting of geologists, environmental engineers and scientists, chemists and other support staff. Will need to work closely with and coordinate among multiple project managers and technical leads


Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Manages and directs professional and technical staff in the execution of large-scale drilling projects
  • Leads team by developing technical solutions to complex problems
  • Analyzes subcontractor invoices and tracks expenditures to help the project manager with overall financial tracking
  • Performs work with minimal direction with periodic reporting to the program manager
  • Oversees the development and execution of drilling plans and schedule.
  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems with the support of the project team
  • Supervises task leads during all phases of project work
  • Experience managing complex schedules to meet client objectives in fast-paced environment

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Engineering, Science, or a related field + 10 years or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
  • US Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Geology, Engineering, Science or a related field and 15 years overall professional experience in a prominent role on projects with extensive drilling and well installations
  • IF not local, willing to relocate to Honolulu, HI
  • Professional Geologist Registration a plus
  • Experience successfully managing multiple subcontractors involved in concurrent operations
  • Ability to coordinate and direct project teams to ensure efficient operations and coordination of drilling, investigation-derived waste, stormwater pollution prevention, and surveying activities
  • Experience making technical decisions on well designs in a complex hydrogeologic environment
  • Experience with regulator and stakeholder negotiations in designing, implementing, and executing large-scale drilling investigations
  • Thorough working knowledge of RCRA
  • Experienced in the drilling of deep wells and hydrogeological testing (e.g., packer testing) and investigation
  • Thorough knowledge of hollow-stem auger, coring, wet rotary, and air rotary/air hammer drilling methods
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and communication, both verbal and written skills
  • Superior communication, writing, editing, and reporting skills, for a wide variety of audiences
  • Experience preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders

Ideal Additional Qualifications

  • Proven and identifiable experience managing high profile projects
  • Experience with projects that evaluate petroleum impacts to drinking water aquifers.
  • Rotasonic drilling experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the State of Hawaii Well Standards and Hawaii Technical Guidance Manual on conducting environmental investigations.
  • Drilling in a highly heterogeneous basalt environment that contains layers of varying permeability and hardness
