As the Senior Bioprocess Project Engineer, you will lead the bioprocess equipment design, construction, commissioning and optimization for GOOD Meats large scale cell culture manufacturing facility, the worlds first and only commercially produced cell culture cultivated meat product.

In this role, you will be responsible for implementing GOOD Meats unique cultivated meat bioprocess cell culture and harvest process through sanitary and sterile bioprocess equipment and operation design, with intrinsic knowledge of utilities, facility layout, automation, preventative maintenance, operability and safety. In close collaboration with internal partners (Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Development, Quality) and external engineering partners and equipment suppliers, you will lead all phases of design from conceptual to detail, manage deliverables timeline, execute release testing (FAT, SAT, commissioning) and turnover to manufacturing.
Our ideal candidate will have more than 7 years of experience in bioprocessing project/process engineering and/or operations of commercial cell culture bioprocess facilities. You should have an innate curiosity for understanding and solving unique and complex cell culture and harvesting systems challenges from a physical and chemical perspective and a deep experience in sanitary and sterile design of equipment and manufacturing facilities.

You have a holistic understanding of the cell culture process, operations and equipment challenges. What youll do*

  • Lead the design of green field cell culture facility by adapting bioprocess engineering and sanitary principles to cell culture process and equipment in a food production environment;
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise to internal and external partners to implement projects on-time, within budget while meeting unique requirements;
  • Leverage experience to develop creative and innovative solutions to unique cultivated meat process requirements and regulations;
  • Collaborate with external engineering and equipment providers to develop, review and approve technical documentation (P&ID, 3D Models, URS, GA dwgs, etc) as equipment SME for GOOD Meat;
  • Develop process equipment as-built drawings and documentation for new facility;
  • Draft and execute FAT, SAT and commissioning protocols for bioprocess equipment and automation (media prep, media hold, bioreactors, harvest equipment);
  • Manage fast-paced CAPEX project timeline with internal and external partners;
  • Monitor and communicate project status clearly and timely;
  • Develop maintenance plan, calibration plan, spare parts and other plant sustainability programs for ongoing operations;
  • Assist the transfer and scale up of cell culture manufacturing processes for cultivated meat;
  • 10 - 25% travel as required to domestic manufacturing site.

What youll bring*

  • Bachelor of Science degree in chemical / biochemical engineering or equivalent related field;
  • 7+ years of experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry required; Biopharma experience preferred;
  • Experience in utility CAPEX projects and/or commercial operations;
  • Experience operating in a cGMP environment;
  • Strong technical writing skills;
  • High level of professionalism, with the agility and flexibility to manage changing priorities;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal;

Additional Information & Requirements*

This is a full-time regular position based out of our Headquarters in Alameda, CA. At this time work will be hybrid with the expectation to be onsite a minimum of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.

This role requires the ability to travel without restrictions domestically 10-25% of the time.
