Bachelor’s Degree. Registered dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Must have and maintain licensure as a Licensed Dietitian in the State of Iowa.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in nutrition and dietetics or related field.
Experience providing dietary services for intercollegiate or professional athletes.
Experience providing nutrition counseling services and education within a NCAA football program.
Experience in food service operations.

Job Description:

The Iowa State University Athletics Department is accepting applications for a Sport Dietitian I. This position will initially be assigned to support Cyclone Football and will report to the Director of Football Nutrition in providing holistic nutrition services that support student-athlete academic, athletic and life-long success. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary sports performance team, Iowa State Athletics is seeking a candidate who can excel in the following areas:

  • Provide evidenced-based dietetic and nutrition services via individualized and team assessment, counseling, and support.
  • Deliver nutrition education to individuals, teams, recruits and coaches through a variety of methods.
  • Assist with procurement, inventory management, monitoring of inventory budget, and food safety standards.
  • Collect, organize and present data in a way that is useful, collaborate and enhances sports performance decision making: perform DEXA body composition assessments, conduct hydration and/or sweat rate testing, update nutrition report cards.
  • Collaborate with on-site culinary teams and off-site food vendors to support execution of fueling services.
  • Support practice and game day nutrition operations.
  • Assist with managing student-workers.
  • Demonstrate commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of the University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA.

The successful candidate must have a good knowledge base of nutrition curriculum; possess solid communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively and help write effective educational materials and presentations; be highly organized; and maintain confidentiality. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body. Requires the ability to work outside normal business hours with a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends and traveling with the team during competition season.
