Cedar Hills Geriatric Center Uvalde, TX 78801

1) Manage the operations of the Speech/Language Pathology Department to meet resident needs, the company's fiscal requirements and federal and state regulations.

2) Assign resident load and other responsibilities to Speech Therapy Staff in an appropriate manner.

3) Screen, evaluate and treat residents. Assure that residents admitted for treatment recieve required therpay services and service delivery is documented appropriately.

4) Orient, train, supervise, evaluate and counsel department employees to achieve and maintain a high standard of care.

5) Hire and terminate department employees to achieve and maintain a high standard of care.

6) Develop and maintain a medical records system that:

  • Is accurate and concise
  • Meets governmental and third party payor requirements.
  • Minimizes duplication
  • Reflects a clear picture of the residnet's problems, the therapist's intervention, and the resident outcome.

7) Develop and maintain an administrative record keeping system that provides an accurate record of the number of treatments given and charges incurred.

8) Communicate and coordinate Speech/Language Pathology Department functions, with other departments in a constructive manner that helps build team rapport and effectiveness.

9) Communicate with the Director of Nursing and/or Rehabilitation Director regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems, and successes.

10) Assure that the department complies with corporate, facility and departmental policies and procedures.

11) Communicate with physicians regarding resident problems, progress and department programs.

12) Communicate to the public and to medical personnal outside the facility regarding the theraphy services.

13) Participate in:

  • Community awareness activities
  • Facility inservice training program
  • Resident care conferences
  • Medicare/Rehabilitation Utilization Meetings
  • Marketing Meetings
  • Department Head Meetings
  • Inquiry/admission process
  • Area rehabilitation enhancement meetings
  • Facility Quality Assurance meetings

14) Develop department revenue and control expenditure of funds to meet budgetary requirements.

15) Set goals and objectives for the department and implement activities to accomplish them

16) Supervise Speech/Language students programs

17) Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Summary of Qualifications;

1) Must posses Certificate of or be eligible for Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech, Language and Hearing Association.

2) Must possess a current license as a Speech/Language Pathologist in the state of practice.

3) Must possess management and supervisory skills

4) Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and possess sufficient communictaion skills to perform the tasks required.

5) Physical adn Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices). Occasional bending, squatting, twisting adn reaching, frequent siting or standing: frequent repetitive pushing, pulling and grasping and fine manipulation: occasional resident handling up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting from floor up to 10 lbs; continuous functional communication and hearing.

6) Must meet all local health regulations and successfully complete a post offer health assesment.

7) Must be capable of performing the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accomodation.

Pay: $40.00 - $55.00 per hour
