Sous Chef Job at Episcopal Homes of Minnesota
Summary of Position:
Responsible for the Becketwood Cooperative kitchen activities and food preparation in collaboration with the Executive Chef. Prepare and direct the serving of meals while maintaining a high level of cleanliness and sanitation practices. The Sous Chef is responsible for supervision of the kitchen and dining room activities/staff in the absence of the Executive Chef.
Responsibilities and duties:
1. Prepare and serve the daily menu according to recipes and directions from the Executive Chef.
2. Assist with inventory/ordering and maintain appropriate level of supplies, ingredients, and food.
3. Prepare menu items for catering events as directed by Executive Chef.
4. Assist with the development of daily menus and special event menus.
5. Ensure all cleaning and sanitation requirements are met and implemented.
6. Serve as the primary contact of the Food Service in the absence of the Executive Chef for Members, Committees, etc.
7. Assist with personnel functions including interviewing, training, supervising, and scheduling of food service staff as directed by Executive Chef.
8. Assist with catering events. Interact with Members in a courteous manner and with a positive customer service attitude.
9. Maintain a clean neat personal appearance and wear uniform tops that are provided and appropriate pants. Wear appropriate non-slip shoes and follow appropriate food service hair policies.
10. Work in a cooperative and respectful manner with other staff members. 11. Assist with other duties as directed by the Executive Chef.
Relationships:
1. Reports to the Executive Chef.
2. Reports to the Executive Manager in the absence of the Executive Chef.
3. Works with and interacts with other kitchen and serving staff members. Provide constructive feedback as needed in a positive manner.
4. Interacts with Members.
5. Works with other staff members to assist with the needs of the Food Service and day-to-day Cooperative activities.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum three years’experience of restaurant or food service food preparation and · · cooking.
2. High school diploma required. A two-year technical college degree in culinary arts or food service management is preferred. .
3. Demonstrated knowledge and culinary skills to prepare menu items that respond to Member's dietary needs and interests.
4. Ability to work professionally with older people in a sensitive manner.
5. Good oral and written communication skills with. an ability to work well with people.
6. Ability to use a "PC" computer, and software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.
7. Authorize and pass criminal history background check.
8. Physical requirements of the position are:
a. Ability to stand and walk 100% of the shift including bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, pushing/pulling/reaching movements, reaching overhead and walking'.
b. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
c. Ability to climb a 6-foot ladder or step stool.
