Pollock Orora is seeking an experienced Sourcing Specialist to set purchasing policy for buyers and negotiates substantial dollar volume contracts. He/she is responsible for maintain purchase info records and negotiating favorable terms of materials, equipment, and supplies (commodities-custom packaging-corrugating) from vendors. He/she evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers. Has solid knowledge of a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures within the purchasing/distribution field. The Sourcing Specialist relies on independent judgment and discretion and deals with matters of significant importance that impacts the company’s revenue.
Summary of Role and How You’ll Fit In
The Sourcing Specialist sets purchasing policy for buyers and negotiates substantial dollar volume contracts. The specialist will set these policies by performing the responsibilities outlined below.
This position reports to: Operations Manager
Location: Hybrid
FLSA Status: Exempt
- Interviews vendors and evaluates their products and capabilities as supplier.
- Researches product lines, prices, product sources, and other relevant purchasing information.
- Evaluates research findings and makes independent decisions on procurement matters.
- Serves as a liaison between vendors and sales representatives.
- Obtains quotes from vendors and compares quotes with the specifications and availability of items.
- Organizes, updates and retains product information records.
- Reviews contracts for change prior to bid or renewal.
- Approves price increases provided for in contracts and makes changes as necessary and appropriate.
- Return quotes to sales representatives without 24-48 hours
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, increase turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly, to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Performs other duties and/or responsibilities as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred or 10 years’ experience in corrugated purchasing along with at least 5 years distribution
- 5+ years’ experience in corrugated purchasing
- Experience in a distribution environment a must
- 2-5 years working knowledge of SAP MM Module
- 2+ years working experience in Excel (proficiency preferred)
Additional Required Qualifications:
- Self-starter attitude with superior communication, writing skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
