The Orange County Solid Waste Department has an opening for a Solid Waste Program Supervisor. Work involves the responsibility of performing administrative and supervisory work in overseeing and participating in the daily operations of County Solid Waste Recycling. An employee in this class is responsible for providing collection services to Orange County residents within the rules and regulations of County Ordinances and Solid Waste Management.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Operations Manager with limited leeway to exercise independent judgment in performing assignments within strict guidelines and within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work. Assignments are provided by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines. Additional assistance is provided for unusual situations that do not have clear precedents. Supervision over others is required of this position. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally accredited or registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Environmental Management or closely related field, AND four (4) years of work experience in performing administrative and supervisory work in overseeing and participating in the daily operations of a recycling program; AND one (1) year of experience in the direct supervisor of staff; OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Must be able to obtain Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire; currently licensed and experienced class B operators preferred.

Must possess a SWANA Manager of Collection Systems Certification or be able to obtain within one year of hire.

An employee in this class will be responsible for operating collections vehicle to cover routes when necessary.

All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $51,675.00 - $68,175.00 per year
