Software Engineer, Core Engineer
DUTIES: Designs and develops core product components, including developing enhancements to the Core Engine to handle batch processing requests. Contributes to open-source engine to improve functions, such as supporting long running queries, using ephemeral hardware through cloud spot instances, executing queries with high memory requirements, and implementing runtime performance optimizations through cost based optimizer. Analyzes and optimizes software performance metrics and benchmark results. Develops a viable system for guaranteeing consistent and reliable performance of long running batch processing queries. Automates testing infrastructure and contributes to ongoing test developments. Operates in an Agile and customer centric development environment. Participates in architectural discussions to refine and improve product architecture.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computational Data Science, or a related field, and five (5) years of experience developing distributed systems, databases, and big data systemsin Spark, Presto, and Hadoop. Or, a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computational Data Science, or a related field, and three (3) years of experience developing distributed systems, databases, and big data systems in Spark, Presto, and Hadoop.
- Three (3) years of experience developing software in Java, Scala, or C++ and shipping software in a production environment.
- Three (3) years of experience optimizing Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) query engines using vectorization, late materialization, and code generation techniques.
- Three (3) years of experience working within Linux and other UNIX-like OS systems, including performing file manipulation, advanced commands, and shell scripting.
- Three (3) years of experience using the VIM code editor and GIT version control system.
Travel may be required either domestically or internationally to other offices up to four times a year.
Telecommuting permitted.
