The Social Media Specialist is responsible for generating awareness of Goodwill Industries of Central NC (GICNC) and enhances our image through social media platforms and special projects. This position will also assist us in creating a vision for the agency's marketing and communications efforts and supports the execution of the annual marketing plan across all divisions of the organization.

This position will operate out of Goodwill s Home Office, located at 1235 S. Eugene St., Greensboro, NC. Occasional travel is required throughout our five-county territory, including Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Rockingham, and Caswell Counties.

Essential Functions

The Social Media Specialist must be skilled at creating and executing social media strategy through competitive research, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification. A summary of responsibilities and activities include the following:

  • Develops and executes social media strategy through competitive research, benchmarking, and messaging that attract an audience to our owned digital properties.
  • Generates, edits, publishes, and shares daily content that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action. Monitors online social activity to ensure compliance with guidelines and best practices. Responds to external inquiries on social media in a way that will positively influence public opinion of GICNC and build brand visibility. Identifies any potential issues and forwards to the Marketing Business Manager for resolution.
  • Sets up and optimizes company pages with each platform to increase visibility of GICNC's social content. Analyzes online engagement activity and recommends adjustments to improve platform performance.
  • Develops social promotions and campaigns that attract an audience to our owned digital properties while maintaining "brand voice" consistency across daily published content. Films/photographs CICNC events, clients, and employees for use in marketing materials.
  • Identifies, vets, and recommends potential social media influencers to partner with GICNC.
  • Develops/implements an editorial calendar in collaboration with the Marketing Business Manager.
  • Cross-trains and provides back-up support to Marketing counterparts in their absence.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in graphic design, marketing, communications, community relations, journalism or other related field is required. A combination of related experience and college level coursework may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum 2-years' professional work experience in content marketing, digital marketing, corporate communications, or other related activities is required including at least one year of experience writing content for websites and blogs. Must be able to demonstrate excellent graphic design skills with a strong portfolio.
  • Must have excellent computer skills with experience and skill using graphic software programs, MS Office products (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), as well as other graphics software packages that might be necessary to support marketing projects, including video production.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write content for agency media platforms, speeches, news releases, reports, business correspondence and other informative communications. Must demonstrate the ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints, gaining the respect and confidence of others, and acting with the highest level of integrity and empathy. Must effectively present information and respond to questions from media members, team members, consumers, volunteers, and the general public using tact, courtesy, and cooperativeness.
  • Must be a strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills, creativity, idea generation, and the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Requires ability to lift 30 lbs maximum. Also requires ability to sit most of the time, but also requires frequent standing and walking when at stores, career centers, events, and in offsite locations. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and color vision.
  • Valid NC driver s license with good driving record, reliable vehicle, proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage, and able to travel in personal vehicle within GICNC's 5 county territory.

Hours: Position is salaried. Work is generally conducted Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm, with requirements for traveling to other locations during evening hours and weekends during events and other occasions as needed.

Salary & Benefits: Salaried position paying approximately $40,000 to $45,000 annualized DOE.
