General Summary of the Position

Reports to Project Manager and performs tasks involving physical labor at Environmental remediation and construction projects and manage a laborers and operators as needed to complete a site task. Site Supervisor may operate a variety of power tools and heavy equipment. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials, lab pack or overpack leaking drums or leaking material. Site Supervisor may assist equipment operators or environmental chemist with identifying and cleaning up hazardous material. Tracks time of employees and directs employees in safe and proper procedures and follows SOPs for activities.

Essential Functions

  • Manage operators and laborers to complete site tasks, being in charge of crew, performing task hazard analysis, follow work plan, communicate with Remedial Manager, client and crew to ensure work is completed in efficient and safe manner; and may also:
  • Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in environmental remediation construction projects; perform manual work in remediation of contaminated sites
  • Fine grade fill to grades, given by project manager; excavate and fill trenches and ditches
  • Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards
  • Material handling and storage
  • Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Foreman, Safety Director or HR Manager
  • Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to front loader, large street sweeper, and water truck

Physical Work Activities and Exposure

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination
  • Noise level is generally loud
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs
  • Excellent stamina is required
  • The ability to work in full PPE including respiratory protection including SCBA, APR, SAR

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in environmental remediation and construction work
  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency

Education, Training and Experience

  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions
  • 3 years experience on Hazardous Waste Remediation Site
  • Requires 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste worker training
  • Requires 8-hour refresher training as required by OSHA
  • Certified first aid and CPR training preferred
  • FEMA 100 200, 700 and 800 ICS training, as required on worksite

Special Requirements

  • Must possess valid and appropriate state driver’s license and have good driving history approved by insurance carrier that qualifies employee to drive company vehicles.
  • Must understand and sign-off on Corporate and worksite Health and Safety Plan(s)
  • Must have sloping and shoring training
  • Direct “tailgate” safety meeting when required
