Provides management for the mines' maintenance department on shift assigned. Provides direction to ensure a safe work environment, compliance, continuous improvement, low maintenance costs and high equipment availability.

Target Responsibilities

Plans efficient maintenance activities and procedures that safely optimize staffing and equipment availability.

Identifies target objectives, develops plans to achieve the objectives and monitors plan and results

Works with the Shift Foreman to minimize downtime and develop and execute efficient maintenance plans

Works with the production staff to minimize downtime and develop and execute efficient maintenance activities

Works with the Safety Department and General Maintenance Foreman regarding all safety laws, regulations and policies

Audits safety programs, inspects operations and reviews accident investigations to reduce and prevent any potential accident situation.

Leads and encourages continuous improvement projects

Communicates to the General Maintenance Foreman any potential opportunities, which would improve the operation and any problems that would impact the running of a productive and safe operation

Works with Warehouse Supervisor to ensure the availability of required supplies, services and equipment to meet production objectives

Works with Office Manager and Mine Clerk to make sure all payroll systems are correct

Minimum Requirements

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent

Two years of electrical or mechanical technical degree and 10+ years of experience in mine operations and electrical/mechanical maintenance; or undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field and a minimum of two years of experience in mine operations and electrical/mechanical maintenance

Requires thorough knowledge of coal mining operations; including safety, compliance, production, maintenance, economics, and equipment usage and staff utilization

Requires supervisory and management skills and experience

Requires special certifications, which may include electrical, mine foreman, fireboss, rescue and first aid. MSHA electrical qualifications, Mine Electrician certification, if applicable

Most possess effective verbal communication skills

Must have basic computer skills, including familarity to Oracle, Microsoft Word and Excel applications
