The CARITAS Emergency Shelter, as of the five programs of this thriving non-profit, provides compassionate hospitality to those experiencing homelessness in our region. Services are offered to both men and women on our Richmond campuses and basic needs such as shelter, meals, clothing, and connections to supportive services are provided. We take an integrated approach to helping people solve their housing crisis by connecting them with a housing specialist. This position provides supervision and guidance in the shelter environment and works alongside housing specialists, volunteers, and other CARITAS staff.
Position Summary:
The Shelter Program Manager creates a community of compassionate care in our low barrier women's shelter through modeling empathy and trauma informed practices and overseeing the shelter's daily functioning. The Shelter Program Manager will prioritize the health and safety of the shelter environment through supervising all shelter support staff, develop and implement all shelter policies and procedures and ensuring that they are being implemented and enforced by shelter support staff through a trauma informed lens.
- Create a culture of compassionate care through successful hiring, training, managing, and retaining of shelter support staff.
- Create and manage all workflows for shelter staff on Google Workspace.
- Oversee both internal and external shelter programming, including supervision of interns and volunteers.
- Provide supervision to all shelter staff to address areas of growth and collaborate on professional goals
- Develop and implement shelter policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Facilitate weekly house meetings.
- Participate in Emergency Shelter on-call schedule
- Sign off on all participant grievances, write ups, terminations, and incident reports, and follow up as necessary.
- Participate in internal case conferencing, facilitate monthly shelter support staff meetings and trainings, and attend CARITAS leadership meetings as assigned.
- Participate in community trainings and meetings as appropriate.
- Report on outcomes monthly.
Qualifications:
- Established professional and effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of homeless services in Richmond and other community resources.
- Extensive attention to detail and time management skills.
- Trained in de-escalation, trauma informed care and a person-centered approach.
- Capacity to hold compassionate, confidentiality, and professional boundaries, including know-how and talent to come along side individuals with high needs.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word and Google Suite; experience with data collection and reporting
- Bachelor's degree required, Social Work/Human Services field desired.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Experience and comfort working with individuals with serious mental illness with a trauma-informed lens. Knowledge of real estate, Fair Housing Act, Landlord-Tenant Act, Americans with Disabilities Act a plus.
- Valid T.B. test within 2 weeks of being hired.
- Current CPR and naloxone certification required within 1 month of being hired.
Status: This full-time, exempt position
Supervisor: Director of Emergency Shelter
Hours: 40 hours; 7am-3pm M-F
Hourly Rate: $45,000 - $60,000 depending on experience
