The Senior Trade Compliance Specialist is the organizations subject matter expert in all facets of trade compliance, regulatory compliance and any related matters.
This position is responsible for maintaining organizational compliance with import procedures and regulations, creating processes and procedure improvements and mitigating risks associated with import and export operations. In addition, this position is responsible supporting cross-functional internal stakeholders and third party freight forwarders with compliance related inquires and tasks Responsibilities 1. Serve as the internal customs compliance and trade regulations subject matter expert 2. Lead or co-lead major project initiatives involving trade compliance, including, but not limited to: CBP audits, ERP system projects, projects involving changes to the import/export compliance rules and regulations 3.
Review and validate Harmonized Tariff Schedule ﴾HTS﴿ tariff classifications and ensure that all company internal systems are updated to reflect classifications/changes 4. Act as the primary resource in reviewing and confirming compliance with import procedures and regulations and ensuring that all SOPs are maintained up-to-date for imports/exports 5. Remain up to date on all federal regulation changes and evaluate the impact to current processes for management; attend compliance/CBP/industry trade conferences as necessary 6. Develop process and procedure improvements where identified and continuously improve upon existing SOPs to account for regulatory changes 7.
Identify and mitigate risks associated with import/export operations for the organization 8. Identify opportunities for cost‐savings and strategic participation in various government initiatives and global trade programs to include USMCA 9. Support internal stakeholders and Freight Forwarders in Post Summary Corrections filings 10. Use research tools to study regulations and applicable binding rulings 11.
Effectively use shipment/entry data and documentation for resolving exceptions 12. Work cross‐functionally with internal departments to ensure all trade compliance requirements are met for both import and export shipments. 13. Work externally with customs brokers/freight forwarders and vendors to ensure alignment with global trade initiatives and government agencies as required.
14. Manage record retention of all import related documentation to assure a legal audit trail is readily accessible should the government require an audit. 15. Monitor's trade and communication surveillance via 3rd party systems (Descartes DPS) 16.
Works with other departments to help ensure compliance with regulations and rules set by various external regulatory agencies 17. Perform ITC (International Trade Commission) Self-Assessments 18. Review ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) Export Reports 19. Develop, refine and conduct internal training seminars and sessions on trade compliance concerns 20.
Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Operations, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related discipline and seven ﴾7﴿ years of previous supply chain/logistics or compliance experience. Extensive knowledge and familiarity with Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States ﴾HTSUS﴿, product classification, U.S. and overseas import regulations to include Canada‐United States‐Mexico Agreement ﴾CUSMA﴿, Section 301 Tariffs and Duty Drawbacks, FDA, EPA, PST ADD/CVD and CBP regulations is required. Certified Customs Specialist ﴾CCS‐NCBFFA﴿ certification is preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office ﴾Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word﴿. Must be able to work and effectively communicate with all levels of the company and suppliers. Physical Requirements: Occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
