Senior level engineer for a mission critical front-end communications system which manages routing of all traffic into and out of Delta Air Lines core systems. This role will become an integral part of the re-architecture and design of the next generation of this foundational component of the airline.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS ROLE:
New development, enhancements, and support for new and existing systems and applications, including proprietary communications hub software.
Analysis of large volumes of data into and out of multiple internal systems and partner connections.
Comprehension and design of detailed technical documentation.
Ability to understand the big picture and come up with solutions that solve current problems and are also scalable for the future.
This job requires the technical skillsets that will be outlined as must haves. In addition to this you may need to learn unique airline industry skillsets. This mandates excellent soft skills including:

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree or five or more years of work experience.
- 5 plus years of C/C++ development experience
- 5 plus years of experience in development on both Linux and Windows environments.
- 3 plus years of experience with a version control system: ClearCase, Git, Subversion, etc. and developing/maintaining pipelines in Jenkins.
- Experience with Python development.
- Strong AWS experience with running apps on RHEL in the cloud, including containerization
- Intermediate SQL proficiency is recommended
- Working experience with CI/CD - AWS code pipeline
- Experience with Cloudformation
- A strong desire and ability to run an optimized critical communications system with 100% availability.
- Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc
- Demonstrates that privacy is a priority when handling personal data.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
- A background in system engineering and/or network engineering.
- C/C++ development experience with asynchronous socket communication development.
- Experience with network communications and/or middleware products
- Experience with Integration messaging / networking on the cloud
- Experience debugging with GDB.
- Experience in highly available service implementations like Veritas clustering and Load Balancing.
- Experience in dealing with systems that handle large amounts of traffic (typically at least 20,000 transactions per second).
- Experience with a relational database: Sybase, MySQL, etc.
- Experience with basic Linux server management, especially RHEL.
- Experience developing/maintaining Web applications written in C/C++ with Apache Webserver.
- Airline industry knowledge.
- Experience with communications protocols, formats, transports, and traces HTH, TCPIP, MATIP, MQseries, EDIFACT.
