ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The MENA Senior Program Officer provides strategic support and oversight on a variety of department objectives, including project management, donor reporting, donor relations, proposal development and communications. The Senior Program Officer is responsible for high-level support for a variety of projects within the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) program unit and will work closely with the Regional Director for MENA as needed. Regular trips within MENA will be required.

LOGISTICS

This is a remote-based position. Preference will be given to candidates based in the MENA region; however, all remote candidates will be considered. Additionally, there are locations in which Internews is not able to support fully remote work.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Support the development and implementation of annual workplans in close collaboration with the Country and Project Directors, Regional Program Manager and Regional Director for MENA.
  • Coordinate with other departments within Internews to ensure effective support for MENA programs.
  • Directly manage at least two of Internews’ projects in MENA, providing mentoring and backstopping to field offices and new project directors.
  • Work with the Regional Director and Regional Program Manager on project oversight and progress towards program deliverables.
  • Closely collaborate with the MENA Business Management Unit to ensure sound financial practices and budget compliance.
  • Liaise with Internews administration and control staff on all contracts, subgrants, procurements, and payments.
  • Review grants/contracts packages for compliance and accuracy prior to submission and ensure deliverables are in-line with program plans and are cost-effective.
  • Provide reporting on all aspects of grants management to donors as required.
  • Write reports and proposals for donors and internal briefs on MENA programming.
  • Conduct research as assigned and in support of ongoing projects and new initiatives.
  • Support local partners in the MENA Programs with proposal development, fundraising, and organizational development.
  • Represent Internews at conferences and events when needed, with funders and with policy experts.
  • Manage program activities as needed, in collaboration with project leads.
  • Onboard, train and mentor new Project Directors and local staff.
  • Support the Regional Director with recruitment for the MENA team as needed.
  • Represent Internews at conferences and events, with funders and with policy experts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Proficiency in English required; Arabic language proficiency a significant asset.
  • Minimum 7 years of programmatic experience in a relevant non-profit.
  • Relevant university degree or equivalent lived/professional experience.
  • Extensive grant proposal writing experience and proven text-editing proficiency.
  • Experience in developing or supporting programs.
  • Professional experience within the MENA region.
  • Previous work experience with USG and/or EU-funded programs and projects (USAID experience a strong asset).
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiate.
  • Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening.
  • Proven ability to set priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple, ongoing assignments.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.

Preferred

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Prior experience in supporting civil society and/or media programming is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in additional languages spoken in the MENA region a plus.
