Overview:
Merrick & Company is looking for an experienced Mechanical Piping Designer with ten (10) plus years of experience to join our team in our Greenwood Village, CO; Tulsa, OK; or Chattanooga, TN offices.
Job Description
This person is responsible for design, layout, and checking of piping and equipment for chemical, power, bioprocessing and oil & gas projects. This designer will work closely with various discipline designers and discipline engineers to perform and coordinate piping design for projects assigned.
Scope/Key Responsibilities:
- Conceptual Design:
- Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment location and plot plans.
- 3D Equipment and piping Modeling and specifications.
- Piping Isometrics, plans, details, and design.
- Site Work in Process Facility.
- Effectively applies discipline design and detailing fundamentals in developing preliminary designs under the supervision of, and subject to, final approval by the Project Coordinator.
- Prepares drawings for design-related activities, including:
- Detailed Design:
- Assists the Project Coordinator with production of specifications, drawings, and other deliverables as required by the Project Coordinator.
- Code compliance review with design professional.
- Maintains discipline checklists for Design Manager to review.
- Participates in coordination review sessions.
- Uses Merrick standards and procedures.
- Analysis Ability - Performs analysis or calculations as assigned.
- Designing for Safety incorporated into drawings with compliance with Owner criteria.
- Detailing:
- Construction Documents
- Produces well-organized, finished design documents of good appearance, accuracy, clarity and correctness, adhering to team and discipline standards.
- Construction Support:
- Checks shop drawings and submittal data for conformance with contract documents.
- Provide comprehensive on-site support including creates inspection reports and punch lists.
- Planning, Scheduling and Profitability:
- Meets scheduled key dates.
- Design to budget employee hours.
- Bid review participation (design vs. estimate).
Required Experience / Skills:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent is required - Associates Degree is a preferred.
- Ten (10) plus years of experience in process piping design is required.
- Five (5) plus years of experience in oil refining industry a plus.
- AutoCAD and Autodesk Plant 3D software experience is required.
- Knowledge of creating Smart P&IDs and maintaining associated data.
- Experience with Navisworks Simulate is desired.
- Proficiency designing piping in Revit a plus.
- Background in the development of piping systems in industrial facilities.
- Basic knowledge of the selection of materials for corrosion resistance or decontamination.
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary design teams.
- Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
- Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
- May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.

- Typical pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00 per hour. The pay range listed in this posting indicates the position’s eligibility to work in the state of Colorado and is consistent with our offices there; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
