About the Position

Golden State Opportunity seeks an experienced Senior Organizer, based in Los Angeles, to join its growing team. Reporting to the Organizing Director, this person will be part of an active team that builds support for programs and policies that build financial stability for low-income families.

The Senior Organizer is responsible for strengthening GSO’s networks, sharing GSO’s work with the community, and building relationships to support robust organizing engagement across Los Angeles. Candidates should have existing relationships with Los Angeles government, organizations, and institutions. The ideal candidate will have experience leading advocacy and organizing initiatives at the local, state, and/or national levels.

The Senior Organizer will work closely with GSO’s team members to help strengthen and expand partnerships, and develop and implement strategic partnerships with local elected officials and grassroots leaders. This role will represent GSO at local events and meetings, sharing information about resources for low-income people and families, including tax credits (e.g. California and federal Earned Income Tax Credit), public benefits, and financial well-being. Additionally, the organizing team is responsible for leading constituency outreach (e.g. women, seniors, college students) as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement the Los Angeles field plan.
  • Maintain and expand strong, strategic partnerships at the local levels with elected officials, community partners, leaders, and volunteers to adopt GSO’s anti-poverty platform.
  • Build an active base of support among community members, volunteers, and leaders including local governments, coalitions, and CBOs.
  • Increase awareness and utilization of GSO’s programs, tools and resources.
  • Represent GSO at meetings, public forums, presentations, trainings, etc.
  • Identify opportunities to help GSO build power to impact local and national systems.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to create toolkits, materials, and collateral to support GSO campaigns.
  • Partner with the Policy team to engage local elected officials and shape advocacy, especially campaign tactics.
  • Represent GSO in media opportunities as requested.

Skills & Experience

  • Track record of developing positive and constructive working relationships with LA elected officials and coalition groups.
  • At least 3-5 years demonstrated management experience in issue and/or electoral campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in political power building, community organizing, base building, and volunteer recruitment.
  • Experience with digital organizing (including texting campaigns) and data list-building.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying potential partnerships while building and managing existing partnership relationships.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong self-management, organizational, research, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Familiarity with poverty, tax, or government benefits issue areas a plus.
  • Experience in a deadline-driven campaign and/or social justice/advocacy environment/organization highly desirable
  • Bachelor’s Degree or have equivalent professional experience.

Requirements

  • Ability to travel to local events.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with occasional weekends and evenings.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual speaker and writer.
  • Experience working with virtual settings using Zoom, Google Hangouts, Slack, Google Suite, etc.
  • Experience working with CRM systems (e.g. VoteBuilder/VAN, EveryAction, Salesforce).

Compensation & Benefits

The annual salary for the Senior Organizer will begin at $75,000, with final salary commensurate with the experience of the selected candidate.
