JOB SUMMARY
This position is part of POET Bioproducts – the POET business responsible for the marketing and logistics for our suite of distillers grains and distillers corn oil products. It is our role at POET Bioproducts to market and transport, as efficiently as possible, our high-quality products from our bioprocessing facilities to our valued customer who happen to be located all over the globe. We use trucks, trains, barges, containers and ocean vessels to make this happen.
The Senior Commodities Analyst is responsible for decision-intelligence. The primary role of this position is to help make better, more informed, and more profitable decisions through evaluation of critical market influences and the implementation of data analysis.
A TYPICAL DAY
- Monitor, research and analyze the current environment to identify potential business initiatives for POET Bioproducts.
- Provide data, analysis and recommendations based on key business drivers such as industry and market trends, customer and supplier assessments, and competitor analysis.
- Assist in the development of trading strategies in conjunction with overall commercial directional strategies.
- Partner with the commercial team to develop potential business opportunities to increase revenue and optimize POET Bioproducts co-product marketing initiatives.
- Build financial and valuation models and perform other ad hoc analyses for potential acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, capital projects and licensing transactions.
- Build, enhance, and maintain the POET Bioproducts database and provide analysis and risk reports to the POET Bioproducts Commercial Team.
- Participate on cross functional teams in vetting possible business development opportunities from concept to execution.
- Prepare ad hoc strategic and financial analyses as requested by Senior Management.

THIS JOB MAY BE FOR YOU IF…
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in a Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field.
- You have 5+ years of experience in commodity analytics or commodity trading.
- You are a strategic thinker. You thrive figuring out why things are the way they are. You’re interested in helping mold the future POET.
- You communicate effectively. You’re comfortable presenting ideas and analysis to leaders. You work well in teams, raising the bar of those around you.
- You enjoy solving problems. You have the ability to take on complex analysis and break it down into more simple ideas.
- You can handle big data and are naturally curious. You believe everything can be measured and you’re creative enough to figure out how.
- You like learning new things. You’re not afraid of taking on new challenges and stretching yourself.
- You have excellent Excel skills, including experience with the Microsoft Power Query and/or Power Pivot or a similar product. You’re capable of learning some code.
