We’re looking for an amazing Senior Manager, Port Operations to fill this role, which is based in our Seattle office. You’ll be responsible for management of operations in over 500 ports worldwide for all Holland America Line and Seabourn passenger vessels to include multi-regional oversight and coordination of third-party vendors, government officials and port authorities. Ability to project manage and provide executive support for multiple cruise line operations in ports around the world daily. Advanced planning and preparation at individual and group levels to execute port calls and homeport operations per brand. Detailed financial planning, analysis, and approval of operational and logistical costs. Development and forecasting of annual budgets and expenses per brand. Primary liaison between port officials and cruise brands including representation of passenger vessels. Negotiation and execution of high-volume port agreements, select port services, and port incentives.

Responsibilities

  • Direct management and oversight of port agents. Must maintain strong relationships and communication with port agents as they are the key representatives for our passenger vessels in each port. Company liaison for any operations or information required by agents. Ensure compliance of all key activities and provide agents with resources as necessary to assist with ship operations
  • Development and execution of annual budgets (over $100m per brand), rate and tariff updates, monthly forecasting, and review/approval of port invoices. Work closely and supervise projects with administrative specialist including monthly financial reporting for senior leadership. Must be able to prioritize key financial responsibilities based on high number of ports
  • Collaborate directly with local stevedore companies to develop plans for loading/unloading luggage, provisions, and other items as required. Must have clear understanding of local and union regulations worldwide. Develop efficient manning plans with stevedores to improve operations as necessary including breakdown of costs per port
  • Partner closely with Guest Logistics team on all homeport operations to ensure detailed coordination between all parties for efficient turnaround operations. Requires strong knowledge of passenger operations. On-site review and supervision for port operations may be required
  • Primary representative for Port Operations in meetings with internal departments, outside organizations, or cruise conferences. May include presentations in a public forum as well as representing the company in various capacities as designated by senior leadership. Must have strong communication skills
  • Arrange shoreside security services for transit and homeport operations. Must understand security requirements at a port level worldwide. Detailed analysis of security manning and equipment requirements per port, particularly homeport operations. Partner with port security regarding security access for passengers and vehicles
  • Oversee execution of waste offload process with internal departments, cruise vessels, and waste vendors. Includes review and approval of Waste Management System, accurate documentation of waste offloads, and review and approval of costs
  • Develop annual provision loading plans in ports worldwide with internal departments per brand. Provide recommendations on best ports for loading or unloading materials. Ensure constant communication between internal teams and service vendors to plan loading requirements per port
  • Ability to work independently and virtually. Strong knowledge of MS Teams
  • Flexibility to travel on short notice and/or internationally as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience in related area
  • 7+ years in port operations, shipping or logistics, or relevant cruise industry experience
  • Prior experience in port-related management and/or marine operations preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Financial background including ability to create and analyze data
  • Flexible schedule as some work required outside of normal work hours including weekends
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Base Salary Range: $99,900.00 to $134,800.00. The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidates' qualifications and experience uniquely.
