Job Summary:

Accountable for completing engineering tasks and activities as instructed by the Corporate Engineering staff. Offer Corporate Engineering staff with technical and operational perspective in evaluating new products. Perform trials and tests for new products and/or packages in the designated commercialization testing area within the Manufacturing facility. Responsible for assisting in the preparation, equipment set up, and execution of line trials. Documents test results as directed by the Engineering staff.

About the Role:

  • Participates in the Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews of new products. Provides maintenance and operational perspective, offers ideas for solutions to the engineering staff for equipment modifications associated with new product launches.
  • Performs trials, tests, and sample requirements for new products and/or packages in the designated commercialization testing area within the Manufacturing facility.
  • Assists Engineers with line trials by ensuring change parts are at the line, aids in setting up the line with the maintenance staff, performs trial, and resolves issues.
  • Documents successful equipment settings and tests results to be used by Operations staff in establishing their set-up procedures. Success measured by achievement of established Ramp Up plan (time it takes to achieve line rate, staffing, and quality standards).
  • Contributes to the completion of activities and milestones associated with new product launches where failure to achieve results may have significant financial impact to the Company. Communicates project status on an on-going basis in the Corporate Engineering meetings and to appropriate departments with associated involvement in the project.

Skills & Experience:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience: 5+ years

Additional Skills & Abilities

  • Must have technical knowledge and mechanical aptitude to perform complex start up, debugging, and repairs of packaging machinery, as demonstrated by successful trouble shooting and problem solving techniques typically acquired through 5+ years of production maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to read and understand technical instructions and reference materials in order to interpret and apply Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions; perform practical applications of mathematical calculations to solve specific mechanical problems; and use many types of equipment.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively in order to interface with multiple internal customers as well as equipment vendors, contractors, and others to meet project requirements. Must have the ability to utilize courtesy and tact in interactions with department and Company personnel in the exchange of information and resolution of problems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, deadline oriented, forward thinking, multi-tasked, well organized, and have strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to stoop, crouch, kneel, and occasionally move up to 60 lbs. in order to start up, repair, and debug packaging machinery.
  • Must have manual dexterity to manipulate and assemble small objects and pieces of machinery.
  • Incumbent must demonstrate a safe work history.
