JOB SUMMARY

The primary responsibilities of the Sr. Loss Prevention Specialist are to prevent store loss and theft through observing and monitoring shoppers, apprehending and assisting with the prosecution of shoplifters, conducting audits and investigations of internal activities and evaluating security concerns through routine store walks and inspections. The Loss Prevention Specialist may oversee and train other loss prevention team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Observe shoppers to prevent the theft of store merchandise. This can be done by:
• Walking the store in plain clothing and observing behaviors or shoppers
• Walking the store and interacting with shoppers to discourage and prevent theft
• Observing shoppers from a distance or through security surveillance
• Investigate known or suspected internal theft, external theft, or vendor fraud. This can be done by:
• Conducting audits of processes and procedures and looking for inconsistencies in money handling, receiving practices or record keeping.
• Surveillance of exits, entrances, back rooms, docks, offices, etc.
• Collaborate with store leadership and law enforcement to report or investigate crimes
• Conduct store audits to identify problem areas or procedural deficiencies
• Maintain documentation or reports on security-related incidents or investigations
• Apprehend shoplifters in accordance with company guidelines. Contact and work with law enforcement to assist with shoplifters, complete paperwork and act as a court witness as necessary.
• Identify and report safety concerns to store leadership to maintain a safe shopping and working environment.
• Evaluate security and make recommendations to leadership to prevent loss

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• To be effective as a Loss Prevention Specialist, loss prevention team members should be detail-oriented team players with strong leadership and decision-making skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as they must fill out reports, question shoplifters and speak with police.
• Education/Training: High School Diploma, some college preferred.
• Experience: Previous loss prevention or security related job history a plus. Retail background also helpful.
• Skills/Knowledge: Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word and Excel a plus
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business

An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS

Loss Prevention Specialists must be able to stand, walk and bend throughout the entire work day. Requires the ability to maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds frequently in order to move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures to conduct audits and safety inspections.
