Senior Health and Safety Manager Job at Sovereign Consulting Inc.
Sovereign Consulting Inc., an environmental consulting and remediation firm headquartered in Robbinsville, NJ, is seeking a Senior Health and Safety Manager to work in one of its NJ locations. The Senior Health and Safety Manager will assist with the day-to-day implementation of all aspects of Sovereign’s Corporate Health and Safety Program and Project-Specific Health & Safety Programs. The ideal candidate will assume the role of Corporate Health & Safety Manager within the next few years.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Office and Site Health and Safety Officers, Office Managers, and Project Managers to ensure appropriate interpretation and implementation of Environmental Compliance and Health & Safety Programs based on guidance, safe work practices and policies from the Corporate Health & Safety (CHS) Department
- Monitor progress reports from safety personnel. Provide input to the professional development and annual reviews of the HSOs, as appropriate. Provide indoctrination and training to new safety personnel
- Conduct and/or coordinate project environmental compliance and safety inspections and H&S program audits to ensure that programs and commitments are implemented in each work location and to ensure that health and safety plan (HASP) and environmental compliance plan (ECP) requirements are implemented on projects
- Assist with Quarterly H&S trending analysis and development of Quarterly H&S Newsletter
- Review HASPs for field projects requiring specialized skills or certifications. Ensure the technical adequacy of project HASP reviews by safety personnel or technical experts with safety specialty skills
- Monitor Corporate and local training needs and provide or assist with training
- Establish and participate in health and safety committees in the offices
- Assist and advise Corporate H&S Manager in the development, maintenance, and implementation of H&S Programs, policies, and documents
- Assure that no work activity that represents an imminent hazard is performed
- Assist with development of EH&S Programs for new service or business lines as directed by Senior Management
- Take initiative for personal career planning, professional development, and professional certification activity (CIH, CSP)
- Oversee Corporate Safety and Industrial Hygiene Programs
- Maintain and update Corporate Health / Safety procedures
- Preparation and/or approval of Accident Prevention Plans (APP)
- Actively promote and support the health and safety programs at project sites
Education, Competencies & Required/Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus 10 years of relevant experience and 5 years in safety
- Professional Certification should be obtained in appropriate field of study/practice (Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation CSP or CIH certification)
- Must possess 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training (with annual refresher) and Management/Supervisor Training
- Individual must have a clear and in-depth understanding of OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements
- Individual must demonstrate the technical expertise and management ability to undertake the H&S Manager role
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Sciences, Environmental Science or closely related field from an accredited institution
- Master’s Degree in EHS or Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State related regulations
- Strong communication skills, analytical skills, problem solving and human relations skills
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour general industry certification
- Proven knowledge of US Army Corps of Engineers EM 385 1-1
- Direct responsibility for Safety in government construction or environmental projects (NAVFAC, USACE, AFCEE, as well as federal regulations)
- Hands-on experience in industrial hygiene monitoring and use of hazardous work permits
- USACE Contractor Quality Management (CQM) Training
- 5 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry
- Employment at Sovereign is contingent upon the results of a Drug & Alcohol screening test and a pre-placement medical evaluation that determines candidate’s ability to capably and safely perform the proposed job duties. Candidates must present documentation that confirms identity and eligibility for employment in the United States
Salary will be commensurate with experience. A relocation package is not offered.
