The Sr Fiber Engineer is responsible for leading and managing complex projects across the Zayo Network requiring fiber-based changes to achieve a desired outcome. Work may comprise of high volume projects such as FTTx or Small Cell, point-to-point fiber, greenfield builds, technical splicing solutions, network relocations, capacity augments/grooms, and others. Includes utilizing GIS-based inventory management systems to document Zayo’s fiber asset usage & inventory (ex. fiber optic cable, splice enclosures, conduit, building data, and more). Position will report to the Sr. Fiber Engineering Manager and include daily collaboration with Zayo’s Service Delivery, Network Optimization, Outside Plant, Network Inventory Specialists, Solutions Engineering, as well as other engineering teams.
Responsibilities

Lead & manage complex projects requiring fiber-based changes to achieve a desired outcome.

Work directly with solutions engineering, account managers, and end users to interpret external needs and provide fiber solutions during pre-sales discussions.

Prioritize & delegate responsibilities within functional & cross-functional teams to meet project specific needs. Must be able to communicate these complex technical concepts effectively to peers & customers.

Design & document routing solutions for variety of fiber-based services including but not limited to FTTx, Small Cell, point to point, multi-node ring, and path diverse fiber.

Research existing databases, files, and records for purposes of network design, fiber optimization, and relocation of fiber facilities.

Create and provide design schematics of fiber solutions and request splicing work for new install fiber projects, relocation of existing fiber facilities, and restoration or troubleshooting of existing traffic.

Ensure inventory of Zayo & customer services utilizing fiber are current and accurate by inputting fiber strand usage into GIS-based inventory management system and maintaining records as changes occur.

Establish and maintains effective communications and professional working relationships with customers both internal and external.

Ability to define project dependencies, manage project milestones, and meet & exceed KPIs.
Preferred Qualifications and Expertise

Requires breadth of expertise in fiber engineering network design, outside plant, and field operations.

Extensive experience utilizing GIS-based platforms and fiber inventory systems for design & data management purposes. GE Smallworld experience is a plus.

Ability to manage complex projects & create innovative solutions with minimal external guidance or direction.

Ability to lead communications & provide technical direction to a variety of cross-functional teams while also anticipating potential objections and influencing others to adopt to the necessary solution.

Orchestrate internal and external project communication dependencies, timeline, milestones, and progress.

Experience utilizing Google Earth in a professional setting with an understanding of how to produce a detailed KMZ file & interpret outside plant construction files.

Exceptional analytical, organizational, and time management skills. Includes the ability to balance multiple in-flight projects while prioritizing & delegating tasks to team members to meet timelines in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in the MS Office suite of tools, in particular MS Visio and Excel.

Experience working within the Salesforce.com platform is a plus.

Well-qualified candidates will possess a work ethic that includes extreme attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to work efficiently without sacrificing quality of output.

7+ years of relevant telecom fiber network experience
Base pay range: $92,000 - $115,920, commensurate with experience
