Finance Team supporting the Insurance Operating Unit in Moody’s Analytics.

Role/Responsibilities

Sitting in our Moody’s Analytics business, this newly created role of Senior Director, Finance Business Partner – Insurance, will support the Insurance Operating Unit (OU) on all strategic financial objectives and decisions. A build opportunity, this role will seek to align business and customer interests with financial operational excellence.

A successful candidate will combine commercial and finance competencies with strong analytical, problem solving and relationship management acumen. The Finance Business Partner will aid in the development and execution of investment plans and operating model strategies to enhance the value of the business. A key member of the business’ management team, this person will ideally provide a constructive, aspirational and diverse point of view, serving as a trusted advisor to the leadership team.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Ensure close connection between operational actions and financial results and forecasts
  • Provide business management team with reporting, performance diagnostics and insights that highlight the impacts of operational decisions (e.g., hiring, pricing strategies, investments, etc) on financial performance
  • Ensure regular cadence of high-quality, timely, credible and insightful reporting related to key business drivers
  • Liaise with accounting and global business services functions to ensure management reporting is accurate and fit for decision-making
  • Facilitate prioritization and execution of strategic investments
  • Understand business strategies including product roadmaps, competitive environment, evaluation of and due diligence on M&A targets, customer feedback and sales pipeline.
  • Identify “value events” and produce risk-oriented analytics to evaluate trade-offs and enable decisions on business strategies.
  • Act as a facilitation point for collaboration and development of business case scenarios.
  • Act as a catalyst to drive forward initiatives, providing regular reporting and insights enabling the business to adjust, as necessary.
  • Adapt corporate financial planning cycles to business operating cycles
  • Balance support for quarterly and annual planning cycles with transparent, rolling, interactive financial models that enable executive-level investment decision-making (e.g., go/no-go on multi-phased investment) as well as variable adjustments to financial forecasts (e.g., sales outperformance/COGS) on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure alignment of OU planning activities to corporate objectives; facilitate clear communication flows between Finance and Business management
  • Develop cost efficiency strategies to ensure maximum allocation of capital towards investment and/or improved business margins
  • Business Engagement / Enabling the business to succeed
  • Integration of finance into the business; attend team meetings, ensure full understanding of the business
  • Provide tailored, effective presentations and business intelligence reports ensuring regular dialogue with business partners
  • Act as a sounding board to business management on all topics – operational, financial, risk, customer, product, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison to other supporting functions (e.g., HR, sales ops, accounting, etc.) to proactively identify and expeditiously solve problems
  • Develop and execute on integration-related activities
  • Drive alignment in data, reporting and modeling processes and systems
  • Serve as liaison from business to Integration Management Office to complete financial and operational integration workstreams and ensure smooth communication flow to business leadership teams on relevant topics
  • Responsible for tracking alignment across businesses
  • Drive value through investor messaging and customer satisfaction
  • Ensure key business successes are spotlighted in quarterly investor communications
  • Support business in improving NPS including through ownership of and resolution of customer issues related to back office processes
  • People management
  • Attract, train, retain top talent in Finance department.
  • Influence, motivate and collaborate with other Finance business partners, in support of cross-functional business initiatives and to ensure streamlining of finance business support processes
  • Provide active leadership to both the finance and business teams, developing and championing excellence and change processes (people process systems)

  • Ability to work with key partners across time zones (from PST to GMT)
  • Quarterly travel is required

Qualifications and Experience

  • 15+ years in business strategy or finance role with 5-7 years of relevant experience in a well-disciplined organization where finance business partnering best practices are integral to the management of the business
  • Experience leading a Financial Planning & Analysis (or similar) team with a thorough understanding of financial accounting and management reporting
  • Insurance industry experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or engineering

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $ 181,300 to $ 262,900, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
