Senior Designer, Global Color Job at ASICS
POSITION PURPOSE / SUMMARY STATEMENT (defines the major functions/purpose of the position):
As the Senior Designer, Global Color you will play a key role in setting and executing ASICS’s seasonal footwear color and trend direction. A successful candidate will be a highly creative problem solver, who does not settle for anything less than the best color design solutions available, to meet the needs of target consumers and company direction. Each season you will bring to life the category’s seasonal color direction and build color palettes based on creative concepts and color strategy. You will elevate the consumer experience with advanced design skills to build original, innovative color solutions for the Performance category. You must be passionate about color application on footwear product, plan multi-season color blocking strategies, and create special collections with unique color and material stories. Working directly with footwear designers, product line managers, and developers, you will translate seasonal color palettes and color combinations into relevant product color placement and themes.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Interacts with all levels throughout organization including employees and outside vendors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with Color Team to create Seasonal Palette, analyze the future Seasonal Color and trend direction.
- Understand our target consumers and trend analysis thru Market research, Focus groups, Trade shows, and forecasting service.
- Create presentations of seasonal color design proposals that effectively communicate with Merchandisers from all regions and Product Line Managers. Present information effectively to cross function teams and accounts.
- Plans and executes color and material designs for Performance Inline footwear collection and special packs. Collaborating with footwear design, product management, merchandising, development, and material teams.
- Creates visual line plan for efficient merchandising process.
- Review all samples to achieve marketable & commercial solutions with design, product line mangers, and development.
- Submit tech packs for development and working with development throughout the manufacturing process.
- Adhere to calendar/timelines/deadlines for category/division resulting in the timely completion of each product.
- Apply color to designs according to the seasonal color strategies by flow and silo.
- Travel to headquarters in Japan for 2 times a year for 1st and 2nd sample meetings.
- Travel to regions to understand the global business.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Understands color trends, color mixing, color compatibility, and color placement. Knowledge of footwear construction and development process.
- Familiar with product manufacturing processes including materials/fabrics; graphics, and color combinations.
- Understands color merchandising/line planning across multiple product categories and distribution channels.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Expert in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, etc.
- A broad understanding of and interest in all areas of design, as well as specific strength in creating and applying color and material stories to performance Footwear.
- Ability to perform in a fast pace, ever changing environment, be flexible and willing to work extended hours when necessary.
- Demonstrates professionalism in communication, attitude and teamwork with customers, peers, and management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in (B.A. /B.S.) in Art/Design, Fashion/ Apparel Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Textile Design, or equivalent work related.
- 5+ years of design experience as a Color Designer or in a closely related field.
- Expert in color theory, color trend, color mixing, color compatibility, and color placement. Superior passing score on Munsell color test.
- Familiar with product manufacturing processes including materials/fabrics and shoe making.
- Understands color merchandising/line planning across multiple product categories and distribution channels.
- Excellent computer skills and ability to work quickly in Microsoft Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentations.
- Strong organizational skills; attention to detail.
- Ability to work proactively, both autonomously and collaboratively.
- Curious and eager to engage in research to find answers and approaches to projects and processes.
