What we Offer

What You’ll do
Summary
The purpose of the Construction Manager position is to actively observe, report and document the process of planning, execution, testing & commissioning, and acceptance into fleet operations of Lightsource bp (LSbp) Solar Utility Projects.
The Construction Manager is LSbp’s field-based representative, and is given the authority by the EPC Agreement to communicate to the EPC Field Team as relates to issues of construction, including but not limited to construction progress, safety, quality, etc.
A Construction Manager will be assigned to an LSbp project larger than 100MWe, a portfolio of 3 or more projects greater than 70MWe, or a differing project configuration if, based on risk assessment, it is determined that a dedicated CM is necessary to provide direct project oversight.
- Overview and understanding of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Agreement to ensure all contractual obligations are met.
- Communicate to management the status of project site conditions and construction progress. This includes written reports, responses to e-mail, providing requested progress metrics, evaluation of performance onsite, etc.
- Proactively identify and communicate operational and/or system issues through regular field and program inspections.
- Thoroughly understand the EPC Contractor’s policies, procedures, and site-specific plans and hold the Contractor, Subcontractors, Consultants, and Vendors accountable to the LSbp reviewed and accepted standards of performance.
- Evaluate operational and technical risks at each phase of construction and ensure adequate controls are established to mitigate those risks. Primary stages of construction will include mobilization, site civil, structural, electrical, testing & commissioning, and demobilization work.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to various internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish a spirit of cooperation amongst the Contractor’s team, site EHS & Quality representatives, consultants, community members and all other relevant project stakeholders.
- Provide LSbp site-based personnel, visitor, consultant and vendor support coordination, including but not limited to security access, site orientation, personal protective equipment (PPE), etc. for the duration of their assignment and/or visit.
- Provide subject matter expertise to the Project Team with respect to matters specific to the project jurisdiction and in accord with permit requirements.
- Provide leadership, training and mentoring to LSbp project site support staff, including Safety, Quality, Consultants, etc., as assigned based on project size and risk.
- Provide timely and accurate incident and accident reporting as required.
- STOP work if an unsafe condition is identified that puts people at serious risk of injury/illness or could negatively impact ongoing operations.
- Provide analytical and presentation support for the team’s current operational excellence programs, including:
o Operational efficiency reviews of key processes & tools
o “Lessons learned” documentation & dissemination
o Operations Excellence (Opex) modelling and cost reduction
o Vegetation management
o Biodiversity programs
o Land option/lease structures
o Centralized HV spares program
o Insurance optimization
o Regulatory compliance
Who we’re looking for
- Track and resolve issues in a practical and efficient manner
- Ability to adapt to diverse cultural and project-based conditions and environment
- Knowledge of Excel in support of issue tracking and cost reporting
- Associate degree or equivalent experience is required
- Construction Management Professional (CMP) certification preferred
- OSHA 30, First Aid, CPR, AED are required
- State Electrical Certification or Registration
- NFPA 70E certification is preferred
- Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project proficiency, is required
- Two (2) years as Site Representative for a Solar Developer is preferred
- Five (5) years of Solar Utility construction experience is preferred
- Five (5) years of General Contracting experience is preferred, including civil, concrete, mechanical, and electrical experience
- Proven experience with high voltage and substations (69KV to 230KV)
- Proven ability to understand the dynamics of a large area construction project with +200 personnel on-site, including multi-employer, multiple subcontractors, etc. scenarios.
- Proven experience in construction of energy (electrical generation) facilities.
- Proven understanding of general construction, including site civil, concrete, mechanical assembly, concrete, electrical.
- Strong familiarity with solar power plant operations
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Good project management and database skills are an advantage
