Essential job functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
- Construct and place concrete forms ensuring proper grade, size, shape, and compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and engineering specifications
- Install expansion materials, reinforcement bars, keyways, dowels, etc.
- Assembles and sets formwork that holds concrete to required pitch and depth and aligns forms appropriately
- Place, screen, and level concrete ensuring proper grade control and compliance with ADA and standard specifications
- Finish concrete surfaces utilizing floats, trowels, power floats, and edging and jointing tools
- Conduct site preparation for concrete work, including tear-out/demolition and preparing earthwork to ensure grade control, elevation, surveys, utilities locates, etc., are complete and accurate
- Operate a single/tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander during snow removal operations
- Transport material and equipment to and from maintenance and construction sites
- Use, clean, service, and make minor adjustments and repairs to equipment and tools
- Perform manual labor such as cleaning culverts, mowing, patching potholes, removing debris, and shoveling asphalt and snow
- Safely operate construction and maintenance equipment such as mowing machines, front-end loaders, and air hammers
- Schedule and coordinate the work of assigned staff; serve in a lead worker capacity
Knowledge of:
- Operation and maintenance of the division's full range of heavy power-driven equipment
- Practices, methods, and materials used in general construction and maintenance work
- Traffic laws, ordinances, and rules related to heavy equipment operations
- Related occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Methods and techniques of traffic control and pavement marking
- Basic principles of civil engineering
Ability to:
- Safely and properly operate various hand and power tools
- Read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Perform basic mathematical calculations
- Interpret, apply, and explain pertinent laws, rules, and regulations as well as City policies and procedures
- Perform a variety of skilled construction and maintenance tasks
- Train and direct the work of others
- Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Successful candidates will have
- A high school diploma or GED
- Five years of full-time experience in concrete finishing/form setting
- Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
- Possess, or obtain within six months of hire, a valid Colorado Class B CDL (Commercial Driver's License), with air brake endorsement, not subject to restrictions related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Ideal candidates will also have
- Possess Traffic Control Technician and Traffic Control Supervisor certifications from the ATSSA (American Traffic Safety Services Association)
- Possess a valid Colorado Class A or B CDL (Commercial Driver's License) not subject to restrictions related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
