Description

Maintains property safety, supervises employees and manages construction contracts and performance for demolition and clean-up duties. Oversees programs, plans and projects. Ensures code enforcement, provides technical knowledge and information, issues permits and inspects new construction sites and renovations. May issues summonses.

Essential Functions

  • Verifies that field construction complies with code requirements and with plans approved for code compliance.
  • Reviews construction methods related to the installation of structural integrity
  • Consults with contractors, architects, engineers, and building managers to discuss and resolve problems.
  • Provides information and enforcement by providing technical information in writing and/or verbal to architects, engineers, contractors, and other agencies, etc., regarding code related issues.
  • Ensures quality, accuracy, and completeness of all projects and their accompanying reports.
  • Conducts acceptance tests, accident investigations, and field inspections for repairs and modifications.
  • Develops and maintains written records of inspections, inspection results, notices of violations, inspection approvals and those requiring corrective action.
  • Ability to use computer software for data entry and review of inspection status.

Education/Experience

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Required:
  • Three (3) years of experience and general knowledge in at least one of the following areas: general contracting, building construction or building trades.
  • Ability to read and interpret building code manuals, documents, and general correspondence.
  • Building knowledge and language.
  • Working with contractors, engineers, architects and other city personnel.

Additional Information & Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Certification in the appropriate subject area must be obtained within 18 months of employment, including but not limited to: Residential Building Inspector, Commercial Building Inspector.
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for new hires. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.

Work Schedule: Full-time, M-F, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. ½ hour lunch
