The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Solution Architect in our IT Business Solutions team.

As IT Senior Solution Architect, you will be accountable for the development portfolio across the US Specialty Insurance platforms, designing and implementing key cloud technology solutions. Specifically, you will be responsible for the analysis, planning, and appropriate Azure design patterns based on Munich Re’s business requirements. This role is essential to successful partnerships across the existing US specialty insurance and global IT organizations to collaboratively design solutions that are resilient and consistent with the patterns and platforms of Enterprise Architecture.

Your Job

• Provide technical leadership and oversight into all assigned major development projects across the Americas. Ensure that the designs of application solutions are secure and will fit within the patterns set by Enterprise Architecture.
• Drive comprehensive design & patterns for secure cloud application environments, Cloud platform enhancements, application architecture, data services, and cloud service integrations
• Architect and implement cloud solutions for various application architectures, and programmatic integration of cloud applications, data services, and infrastructure. Develop application data architecture models to further enable effective service-oriented delivery
• Work closely with global IT towers of Enterprise Architecture and Infrastructure to ensure global tooling and processes are utilized.
• Provide productivity and status reporting to management. Ensures all activities comply with corporate standards and controls.
• Collaborate across towers to enable effective software delivery for all development needs.
• Partner with product and platform leads across all US entities to ensure there is buy-in and support for software designs and solutions.
• Review application solution designs for cloud-fit and optimality, and automate deployment patterns for reusability
• Actively develop and implement creative Microsoft Azure solutions for Munich Re PIRI business units
• Lead professional and technical reviews to ensure that best solutions for technical, security, and general business needs are consistently met.
• Act as SME and advisor Munich Re PIRI business units to support the planning and implementation of the journey to cloud and needed assessment
• Drive meetings with subject matter experts from all areas of the business including infrastructure, operations, applications, vendors and leads to seek input from and plan/coordinate migrations, resources requirements and timelines
• Engage with external vendors to review solutions, new capabilities and product, and service offerings.

Your profile

Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:

• B.S. and/or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent
• 10 + years of experience in software development, preferably in a management capacity
• Deep understanding of cloud design patterns, Cloud Native Architecture and principles, Cloud Operations and Cloud Security Models
• Proven and demonstrable experience in architecting, designing and implementing high volume, high availability cloud applications with a very high degree of automation
• Experience with the following applications & tools:
  • Azure Core Platform: Compute (IAAS & PAAS), Storage and Networking
  • Identity and Authentication Patterns (MFA)
  • Azure HA/DR, scaling, and backup solutions
  • Azure Monitor
  • General automation, Azure Automation, Azure CLI, PowerShell scripting
  • Azure DevOps, including Automation/IaC
  • Kubernetes and Docker
• Expert in web technologies, including web servers, proxies, certificates
• Supervisory and leadership skills
• Knowledge of:
  • Application migration procedures
  • SQL databases
  • Azure Big Data design patterns and resources
• Analytical (proven problem solver) skills and attention to detail
• Written and verbal communications skills to all levels of management
• Experienced and motivated to work in a globally distributed team
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Demonstrated a willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required in execution of duties
