Principle Purpose:

The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller. This position will oversee see aspects of accounting, accounts payable/receivable, merchant services, budgeting, fixed assets, tax, and contract reporting and compliance, cash flow analysis, audits, and financial reporting and analysis. The Senior Accountant must possess a solid knowledge of accounting and GAAP/FAR/SEC reporting, pays close attention to detail and can ensure first-class financial management and accounting across company entities. The candidate must display availability to move in a fast-paced environment, have integrity and a desire for professional growth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports.
  • Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
  • Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
  • Summarizes current financial status by collecting information, preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
  • Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
  • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
  • Guides accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Secures financial information by completing database backups.
  • Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
  • Prepares payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
  • Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.

  • Rigidly adhere to safe work practices/procedures set forth by regulating authorities and the company and never compromise the safety of any personnel, company, or contractor
  • Complete all assigned training classes and courses throughout length of employment
  • Report all hazardous situations as they are found to Management
  • Adhere to Corporate EHS policies including but not limited to Covid-19 policies
  • Comply with Corporate Drug and Alcohol testing policies including random screening
  • Report all injuries and incidents immediately as they occur.

Training

  • Will be required to complete any assigned training necessary to performing essential job duties

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ public accounting experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance and/or similar feel strongly desired
  • Refinery experience in Accounting role preferred

Qualification Requirements:

  • Excellent technical accounting skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work independently
  • Strong analytical skills and technical accounting knowledge
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Great Plains and SAP experience a plus
