SEASONAL- Recreation Leader (PT Rec & Camp Support)
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services seeks an energetic, positive Recreation Leader to serve as an excellent role model for program participants. In this position, you will assist in planning, preparing, and leading activities in areas that may include physical activity, art, music, sports, games, gardening, and field trips for predominantly children ages 5 through 12 as well as adults and middle and high school-aged youth.
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).
Anticipated dates of employment are October-April. Work hours will vary depending upon department needs but will typically be 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. weekdays.
All three community centers - Deerfield Hills (4290 Deerfield Hills Rd.), Hillside (9245 S. Institute St.), and Meadows Park (1943 S. El Paso Ave.) have openings.
Essential Job Functions- the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
Assist in ensuring the quality of the program- Assist in the planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of age and ability-appropriate programs
- Interact with program participants; participate in all activities
- Observe and record children's behavior following Behavior Management Guidelines
- Comply with facility setup and takedown procedures
- Help implement activities for special events
- Develop and maintain good public relations with parents/caregivers and staff
- Assist in providing information to parents/caregivers and children
- Comply with pertinent City and divisional policies and procedures
- Assist staff with the accurate and timely completion of purchasing, personnel, accident, program, and administrative reports
- Report accidents and behavioral concerns to the supervisor
- Actively participate in staff meetings and trainings
- Attend all trainings and complete certifications as required
- Knowledge of child developmental stages and positive behavior management skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to prioritize, think, and work independently; problem solve; and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Excellent leadership skills
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess, or obtain within 60 days of hire, First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certifications
- Experience in supervision and engagement OR working in a coaching or volunteer capacity
- Customer service experience
This position requires the ability to stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds occasionally. The ability to actively participate with youth during program activities is also required.
