The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife Resources, has a seasonal position (no benefits) available in the Northern region. This appointment will start on April 4 and continue into November 2022. Housing is not provided.

Principle Duties
The purpose of this position is to assist in implementing the Division of Wildlife Resource’s Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program to keep quagga and zebra mussels from becoming established in Utah, and containing existing aquatic invasive species to locations where they have become established within Utah. Your typical duties include:
- Assisting in supervising, training and coordination shifts of a team of (10-26) Wildlife Technicians to identify, assess biological risk, and decontaminate watercraft and associated equipment that may contain aquatic invasive species.
- Perform Inspections and decontaminations at Ogden Office when scheduled, as well as work hand in hand with technicians at locations when onsite or covering shifts
- Coordinate scheduling of staff to utilize staff resources to best protect resource and meet partner agreements.
- Implementing interdiction site aquatic invasive species outreach, interdiction, and decontamination strategies under the guidance of the Northern Region Interdiction Specialist.
- Coordinating aquatic invasive species interdiction with other partners and entities as needed.
- Attending assigned meetings with coordination/management groups regarding aquatic invasive species interdiction and education program and provide management summaries and recommendations where needed.
- Attending various training sessions and meetings to improve skills, coordinate work, and communicate key findings with other individuals and agencies.
- Maintenance of facilities and equipment.
Job Requirements and Skills
Our Ideal Candidate
Our model person is someone who has:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in wildlife management or other closely related field.
- Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination II (WID II) certified
- Experience working with and/or knowledge about aquatic invasive species ecology, outreach, decontamination, and containment strategies.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with people in a manner, which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
- Attention to detail during inspections and data entry.
- The ability to interpret and implement DNR/DWR policies and procedures relating to the AIS action plan.
- The ability to prioritize and lead a team.
- Proficient using various computer software programs including Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and ArcMap.

Working conditions:
- You may encounter risks on this job that may be potentially dangerous, such as, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, working in and around boats, trailers, etc.
Physical conditions:
- The job requires physical exertion and requires that you have the ability to stand, walk over rough and slippery surfaces, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, crouch or crawl in restricted areas such as in and under boats, and to lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.).
Other requirements. You must:
- Live within the area of responsibility or have the ability to meet response time requirements due to on-call, emergencies.
- Have or obtain and maintain a valid Utah driver’s license.
- Work weekends and holidays, with occasional overtime and/or on-call when required.
- Travel occasionally including overnight stays when required.
