Our 24 program locations serve nearly 3,500 students countywide and are made possible with a $28 million organizational budget and through the talents of a 300-employee strong workforce that keeps growing.
Position Overview
As a School Site Director, at Lead Elementary, San Mateo, CA you will ensure a high-quality, school-based extended learning time program is delivered to our students every day after school during the academic year as well as during the summer program. You will work closely with the families we serve, the school district, school administrators and teachers, and community partners. You will be a member of the BGCP Site Leadership Team, collaborating with Directors across sites to provide critical input and feedback to the Program Strategy & Staff Development team as well as the Impact & Measurement team to ensure BGCP’s K-8 Extended Learning Time Program is implemented with fidelity and consistency across sites. In essence, as the Site Director, you will be a "second shift school principal" to provide continuity of services for students' extended learning time and ensure programs are driving school success outcomes for students.
As we are expanding to serve students between East Palo Alto and Daly City, the School Site Director role will be available in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, San Mateo, South San Francisco, and Daly City. This position is based at a school site within one of the cities named above, with regular travel to other school sites, the respective school district office, and our administrative offices in Menlo Park, CA. The after-school program runs until 6 pm each evening. Additional hours are required ~1-2 evenings per week for staff meetings, training, events, and occasionally on weekends.
You will report to the Regional Director at Lead Elementary School. During the academic year, the afterschool program runs until 7 PM each evening. Additional hours are required ~1-2 evenings per week for staff meetings, training, events, and occasionally on weekends.
What will you do?
- Manage all aspects of the Extended Learning Time program, ensuring a quality educational and youth development experience for all participants
- Build strong relationships and collaborate with school and district staff to ensure that programming is aligned with the missions and priorities of the school and district
- Coordinate programming with partner community-based organizations, volunteers, and other BGCP staff to support K-8 program
- Build strong relationships with families
- You will train, manage, and develop 2 direct reports: one full-time Associate Director, and one part-time Site Operations Manager
- Act as an instructional leader, inspiring and coaching 8-10 part-time staff to give their best each day to support students and build a community of learners
- Create a positive site culture that includes a work atmosphere of professionalism, teamwork, high expectations, and accountability among staff
- Compile data and track students for program evaluation and reporting to Board, funders, the school district, and the state department of education
- Oversee schedule management, including communications with district and school as well as with parents, visitors and volunteers about closures or other events that impact programming
- Manage program facilities, coordinating logistics between school site and school partners
- Manage site budget and spending
Program Management:
- Co-develop and monitor program and instructional plans for the K-8 program, actively using data to inform programmatic decisions and program plans
- Actively engage with students by building relationships with them and acting as a source of motivation for them
- Build relationships with and communicate with K-8 families about student performance, program participation and attendance, events, and activities
- Along with the Associate Site Director, collaborate and communicate with school staff to align programming with the missions of the school and BGCP and coordinate academic efforts regarding individual students
- Work alongside curriculum team and school-day teachers to ensure that academic support components are implemented successfully
- Work alongside the curriculum team to ensure that enrichment offerings and SEL activities are launched and implemented successfully
- Ensure instructors have the necessary resources to implement curriculum, including lesson plans and materials
- Help co-lead parent orientations and meetings and encourage parent participation in BGCP and school-wide events that increase parents’ connection to and involvement in their child’s school and education
- Help ensure that the BGCP K-8 classrooms are neat and organized and foster physical and emotional safety
- Oversee initiatives, events, and field trips for the K-8 program
- Act as a substitute classroom instructor when needed
- Support program volunteers
People Management:
- Provide support to Associate Site Director in supervising part-time Youth Program Leaders and provide coaching and support to ensure their effectiveness
- Co-manage after-school staff and volunteer schedules
- Be an active leader in developing a positive staff culture and a sense of working as a team
- Inspire staff to strive toward attaining BGCP mission and goals and ensure that staff adheres to BGCP and school-wide behavior and discipline policies
Administrative/Site Management:
- Maintain positive relationships with facility managers on campus to ensure that the program uses school space responsibly
- Support BGCP events and general organizational needs as appropriate
- Support with site program data and liaise with the central Evaluation team when needed
- Support Associate Site Director to ensure all staff and volunteers are trained and meet all employment requirements specified by the Human Capital Department
- Undertake other duties and administrative tasks as assigned

- You have successfully provided a high-quality BGCP ELT program to 150+ K-8th grade students during the school year and over the summer
- You have ensured a strong, collaborative working relationship with School leadership and faculty
- You have implemented shared measurement tools and strong coaching practices, inspiring your team to deliver high-quality catalytic programs that put students on a trajectory of success

Salary & Benefits
- Salary: $75,000-$85,000.00+ per annum
- Health benefits: BGCP pays 100% of premiums for medical, dental, and vision; 50% for dependents
- Retirement benefits: Eligible to contribute to 401(k) and rollover retirement accounts after ninety days of employment; eligible to receive BGCP automatic contribution of up to 10% of salary to 401(k) after one year of employment

What qualifications will the ideal candidate have?
- BA/BS or five+ years equivalent experience
- Successful experience teaching/instructing in an educational environment
- Successful experience leading a team and a track record of managing teams and individuals to outcomes
- A demonstrated ability to coordinate, inspire, and motivate others
- High level of communication skills, both written and oral
- Experience working with low-income populations
- Availability to work occasional evening or weekend events
- Spanish fluency is a plus
