Township High School District 211 is the largest high school district in the state with nearly 12,000 students in its five high schools and two alternative high schools. High School District 211 is located about 25 miles northwest of Chicago and serves the communities of Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Palatine, and Schaumburg, and parts of Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Streamwood, and South Barrington.

District 211’s five high schools are: James B. Conant (located in Hoffman Estates), William Fremd (located in Palatine), Hoffman Estates, Palatine, and Schaumburg High Schools.

POSITION GOAL(S):

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the safety, security and welfare of all students, staff and visitors to District 211. This position will work in tandem with the school resource officer, student supervisors and administration to ensure student and staff safety, maintain order, monitor school facilities, and respond to incidents and conditions that pose a risk to school safety and security.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensures the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors and the premises.

2. Interacts with students and visitors with respect and dignity.

3. Communicates effectively with students, staff and visitors.

4. Be visible and assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

5. Assist in de-escalating student conflict situations.

6. Intervene in situations that pose a threat to students, staff, visitors or school safety.

7. Patrol, inspect and monitor assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law, school board policies and/or school rules, monitor and ensure traffic flow and identify potential safety concerns.

8. Secures premises and personnel at entry points, screening visitors and actively monitor facility to ensure perimeter security.

9. Inspect and manage camera systems and operations.

10. Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.

11. Monitor 2-way radio traffic and respond appropriately.

12. Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.

13. Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.

14. Assists with planning, coordinating and working special and extracurricular events and projects.

15. Assists administrators with the enforcement of all school rules and managing student behavior.

16. Assists with investigations as directed and assigned by administration.

17. Successfully completes training and exhibit skills learned in training which may include but are not limited to knowledge of school rules, decision making, equity, trauma informed interactions, health safety (first-aid, CPR, AED, NARCAN, trauma kits, etc.), fire alarm and evacuation protocols, building safety and evacuation protocols, traffic control, confidentiality, searches, security camera footage review, camera system management, radio use, and de-escalation techniques including physical separation of people during physical fights.

18. Performs other related duties as assigned by school- or district-level administration.

15. Successfully completed and demonstrates proficiency of skills learned through District trainings.

16. Demonstrates appropriate self-direction while inspecting, patrolling and monitoring assigned areas.

QUALIFICATIONS /EXPERIENCE:

1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in law enforcement, military, public safety, or security

2. Supervisory experience preferred

3. Possess a valid driver’s license

4. Strong people and process management skills

5. Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive information

6. Ability to interact with students, staff, and parents positively and professionally

7. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Must have the ability to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs and walk for extended periods of time.

2. Must have the ability to move throughout the school or grounds quickly in the event of an incident requiring an immediate response.

3. Have the ability and skills to physically intervene when student, visitor or staff behavior poses danger to themselves or school safety.

4. Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, key a two-way radio microphone, operate a keyboard, mouse and use a lock and key devices.

5. During an emergency, the ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment while maintaining the ability to articulate and communicate in an effective manner.

6. Have the visual acuity necessary to observe and comprehend student movement.

7. Ability to perform duties connected to exterior and perimeter security (including inclement weather).

8. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

9. Wear designated and provided uniform and components.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a 10-month full-time hourly position starting the beginning of August when 10-month administrators begin and concluding the end of the school calendar with additional separate summer contracts available during June and July as staffing dictates.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
