School Nutrition Program Regional Specialist Job at Virginia Dept of Education
The Virginia Department of Education, Office of School Nutrition Programs (VDOE-SNP), is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to administer the federal school and child nutrition programs at the state level. The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical expertise and assistance to local school food authorities and non-school sponsors to ensure that children receive high quality, nutritious meals, and ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations. This position is required to file an annual State of Economic Interest Form in accordance with the
Code of Virginia, § 2.2-3114.
Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of the administration and management of school and child nutrition programs and the federal and state laws governing them
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of nutrition, food service operations including menu planning, food safety, food production and distribution systems that allow for efficient use of product, labor, and equipment; procurement systems; program, operational, and financial management and nutrition education
- Knowledge of state agency functions, school administration, state and local government procedures and policies
- Knowledge of adult instructional practices and training delivery models
- Excellent skills in written and oral communication
- Organizational management and communication skills
- Skills in planning, developing, and presenting training programs; computer skills in data base management, spreadsheet applications, word processing, presentation software, nutrient analysis, internet, and web-based systems
- Skills in researching, collecting, organizing, and managing data; skills in report writing, and delivering technical assistance and training to school divisions and non-school sponsors
- Demonstrate the ability to provide professional leadership and technical assistance to school divisions related to School and Child Nutrition Programs and foodservice management.
- Demonstrate the ability to interpret policies and procedures, assess programs, identify problems, apply problem-solving techniques and determine improvements and solutions; ability to effectively and competently manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet critical deadlines.
- Demonstrate the ability to plan, develop, and conduct training programs for professionals, state staff, and local school division personnel; write reports; and analyze financial and operational data for assigned school divisions.
- Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals from a wide range of organizations, to effectively present complex information to diverse audiences orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate the ability to use sound judgment; to communicate effectively, and establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment to coordinate, critique, and edit work products of other team members professionally and competently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business administration, institutional management, food services, nutrition, public health/administration or dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master’s Degree or equivalent of 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work preferred.
- Professional experience in the school division or related state agency, to include education, public health or social services.
- Desirable experience at the local school division level in administering, planning, managing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating school nutrition programs.
- Experience in creating and delivering professional development and training programs.
- Experience at the State Agency level in School Nutrition Programs is desirable. Experience if foodservice management is desirable.
- Registered Dietitian (RDN) with school nutrition experience highly desirable. School Nutrition Association membership with the School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) credential or certification preferred.
