  • General Duties:

Duties general include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for provisioning and maintenance of customer service from the Central Office to set including the loop, protector, network channel terminating equipment, inside wire and set as required.
  • Performs all work at or in the customer premise for all services regardless of technology or equipment involved.
  • Place, replace and repair Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) up to and including the NID.
  • Verify all services are working.
  • Splices wires by twisting or by joining with connectors; place fiber and joins by connector or fusion splicing.
  • Review and interprets work orders, circuit diagrams, WORD documents, line and station transfer sheets and follow standard practices.
  • Reviews and analyzes schematic drawings to determine work to be done and sequence of task.
  • Works with hot metal and paraffin, tool, torches, digital loop carrier equipment, interoffice cables, fiber optic cables, air pressure monitoring systems and associated equipment.
  • Terminates wires on various types of equipment and blocks by soldering or mechanical wire wrapping methods and installs connectors on fiber optic cables.
  • Prepares new and existing cables and conductors by removing outer sheath and insulation.
  • Operates power equipment such as pumps, blowers, winches, generators, and hydraulic aerial lifts and ladders mounted on trucks.
  • Loads, unloads, sets up, operates, and maintains various portable electric, gasoline and liquid propane gas operated tools. Maintains tools and equipment according to practices. Maintains stock of construction and repair equipment and supplies in proper locations on vehicles.
  • Uses test equipment to check manhole atmosphere and foreign voltage. Uses locating equipment to determine location and depth of buried and underground telephone plant. Uses other electrical or mechanical safety equipment as required.
  • Makes necessary tests for toxic and explosive gas before entering manhole and continues tests while working in manhole.
  • Installs, removes, and shifts cross connections in terminals. Attaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, and poles.
  • Makes sales recommendations to customers; demonstrates and recommends additional equipment and services.
  • Assists in training of other craft personnel.
  • Performs any other general related duties and responsibilities as determined by the Company.
  • Drives manual transmission company vehicles-car, van, light and medium trucks.

Tests:

  • Digital Cable Technology Mimi-Course
  • Technical Mechanical Test II (TMT II)

Physical Requirements:

  • Further medical screening may be required.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must maintain a personal weight of less than 275 lbs.

Performance/Attendance: (Applicable to all transfers):

  • Satisfactory performance rating in present job.
  • Satisfactory attendance record in present job.

Specifics:

  • Where a candidate is to attend Plant Training Course 810 (Pole-Climbing).
  • Company Driving Certificate required.
  • 40 hours per week, 8 hours day, generally scheduled between 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, ½ hour lunch period.
  • Rotating shifts includes days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Subject to emergency call-outs day or night.
  • Overtime-frequent.

  • Works on ground in trenches, manholes, aloft on poles, ladders and platforms, in building attics, basements, crawl spaces, loop electronic enclosures.
  • Exposed to all weather conditions, as well as dirt, grease, equipment and traffic noise.
  • Wears hard hat and safety glasses as required.
